And anyway, animals hunting is nature, my cats hunt, that's what cats do.

and i was responding to people saying that cats stop rodents in the house when many actually bring them in for ***** n giggles.

a lot of cats arent loyal at all. they will go to whoever feeds them. how many cats would put themselves in harms way to protect their owner?

hardly any dogs can catch a rabbit. ours has never killed anything. she certainly doesnt go around stalking little animals to kill for the fun of it. dogs might kill for food or if they have been trained by ****** toffs to kill foxes, but thats training.

there was a thought years ago that cats sit on babies at night and smother them. not sure if it was true but my in-laws didnt let their cats upstairs when they had babies. urban myth, maybe?!

btw i forgot to say that people who own cats.... your houses smell too... i guess both sets of owners get used to the smell and you dont pick it up any more. some people's stink with the cat litter...

anyway, ive ranted enough of cats now.

If you cant protect your house yourself and you have to buy a dog to do it for you then your clearly (edit): simple and maybe shouldn't own a house let a lone a dog...get a burger alarm and make sure your insurance covers brake ins :rolleyes:

They're trained to use the garden.

They bring rodents in, then kill them, thats fine. Mine usually eat half of it, go to bed then in the morning I can simply pick it up and put it in the bin, followed by a quick wipe with a cloth.

A lot of cats won't because they aren't stupid enough to think they can. And anyway, I don't need protecting, if I wanted a body guard I'd hire one.

Yours has never had the opportunity, in the wild dogs kill all sorts, thats nature. Somehow I think people who have never even lived near the country don't grasp the concept.

If I wanted to take this down to your level, whens the last time you heard about a cat mauling someone? Seems a (poorly trained) dog is in the paper a few times a year for ripping a toddlers face off or eating the handyman.
The amount of posties that have been bitten over the years also beggars belief.
 
Am I the only one who thinks realBabelfish must have been attacked by a cat when he was young? Guess the trauma was too much for him.

Always find it odd when people 'hate' cats or any animal for that matter

What if I’m out?

What if someone breaks in and disables the burglar alarm (which can happen).

What if they break in and kill you in your sleep?

I’m sure house insurance will be adequate then? <facepalm>

Of course I’m over exaggerating here but plenty of businesses use dogs to guard premises, i don't remember any being guarded by a frikkin tabby cat

it’s not of concern to me as i live in a nice little village but if i lived in a ****hole like i have in the past, a dog is a decent deterrent and protection from burglars, unlike burglar alarms.

i shall tell the people who have been killed or assaulted by burglars etc that they were too stupid to own a house then shall i?

A dog is there, i didn’t buy it for protection. i was just saying its more use than a bloody cat. my wife certainly feels more safe with a dog in the house, especially having a 1 year old there too.

BTW - its you're. don’t call me stupid when you have the linguistic skills of an 8 year old. i also look forward to a burger alarm... does it come with fries... hasn’t school started back today? is it your first day of big school?
 
Guarding was the whole reason humans domesticated wolves in the first place.

Cats where domesticated by Victorian gays as a novelty.

i live in rural lincolnshire... cant get much more countryside than here :)

sure, terriers go after anything small but most dogs arent that bothered about killing, they just dont want other animals in their garden (as they see it)

a lot of cats just bring live mice in... fair plays yours do not, but many do, which is what i was replying to. my mother in law is always trying to get mice or birds out her mouse because the moggy brought them in.

wow, bigger animals do more harm shocker... maybe call the news on that amazing piece of journalism you have there? sure, there are bad dog owners and with all the chavs needing a staffi bodyguard im sure it will rise.

down at 'my level' i am also aware of the amazing usefulness of dogs in general... remind me of when a cat was used to sniff for bombs? or lead the blind? or hear for the deaf? or detect cancer in an owner? or work on a farm rounding up sheep? i could go on but im bored....

nothing against them really just useless compared to a dog :)

fair play you want a cat. dont let it **** im my garden. im sure cat owners would be happy if i started lobbing dog **** into their gardens?

:) our dog doesnt like cats much but respects them in the owners house.

so funny to watch dog chase cat past the window, then 2 seconds later watch the cat chasing the dog.

dogs are wary of cats as cats tend to try scratch the eyes out. our old dog was soft as **** and kept trying to make friends with cats, then they would scratch his nose. daft sod never gave up though.

my in-laws also have a 1 year old lab puppy who is soft as hell to their cat. she comes and lays on him and he doesnt bother. he obviously hasnt seen enough cat and mouse cartoons.
