*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Had my N7 for a few weeks now. Fantastic piece of kit. Impulse buy, but has been really useful.

I thought I'd struggle to find a use for it given that I have a GNex too, but it's noticeably faster than the GNex and the screen size makes it a lot more convenient to browse the web.

I bought the Asus one, it's pretty good, slim and feels sturdy enough.
It isn't worth the rrp though, would probably be worth checking the bay.

EBay is full of people charging more than double the price at the purple shirt store.

Any good keyboards for landscape mode?

I got this case.... dunno if it's available in the UK tho.

One slight annoyance is that the credit card pockets leave lines on the screen when it's closed. Other than that, not too shabby for the equivalent of 6 quid.
(I also believe it is in reality a Kindle case, but who cares when it fits perfectly :) )

So far, really enjoying the device.
Just feels nice to read some Google Currents on the bus or have it propped open at work for WeChat and getting personal email alerts and previews.

Got my phone set up as a wifi hotspot too so I have no interest in the future 3g version. (Xperia S, with barely any noticeable battery drain from having hotspot switched on all day)

Ain't technology great !! :D

Thumb keyboard is the best for landscape I've been using so far. If not swiftkey tablet is good, although when I last tried it it went crazy and kept typing haha over and over in a search bar when I pressed any letters.

It's not. I have one. I bought at CPW weeks ago. It's ok, good fit but does stay closed on its own.

Oh nice! Its weird how Google are not selling them yet. Might go have a look today, see if they got any.

I want one because it looks like a simple cover, plus its official to! :p

Edit: Damn, it says on their website "out of stock". What are the chances of them having them in store?

Grabbed the official one from purple shirts this morning. Its rubberised and a really snug fit. Also overlaps the edge of the screen so should help to minimise any screen lift.

It doesn't feel 'that' expensive or premium, but its definately the smallest case, and I hate big bulky things, and definately hate anything that uses those little elasticated straps to hold the device.

Didn't have much time to play last night, so my home screens are very bare. What can people recomend for good widgets and things to fill my home screens up?

Yes, mentioned earlier in one of my posts. It is a rumour only at this point although the blogs seems convinced. Talk is additional $ 20-$ 30 so that suggests additional £ 15-£25 in UK price. Meanwhile the Wifi only version launched in more and more countries---3 more European countries (Spain, France and Germany) and in Taiwan. I find the ability to create hotspot with my Galaxy Nexus just fine. Is 3G addition important to many users? If rumour true, obviously Google and Asus seem to think it will add to sales. DigiTimes mentions estimate that 6 million Nexus 7's will be shipped by end of year---since device launched selectively in mid year, that is a 12 million device run annual rate.

I imagine its to please people who would otherwise use 3G iPads.

Personally, I don't see the point. I have a data plan on my phone and definately don't want to be paying for 2 data plans when I can just hotspot my phone. I suppose it will work for people who aren't 'into' this stuff and just have a basic phone. But then I doubt those people will buy a Nexus 7 anyway, they will go for the iPad.

I don't like the fact that it doesn't stay closed but as you say it's a really good fit and will protect the device and minimise or at least hide any screen lift.

Mine's staying closed no problem. Although I am folding it back on itself when using it so it could develop a tendency to stay open.

Mine stays closed also, although like Skeeter, I am folding it back on itself a lot.
It looked like the best case I could see at the time, but I just don't think it's worth the money.

I'm v happy with my Poetic Hardback off Poetic on the forest cost about £15 iirc has auto sleep and wake when it opens and a variety of angles for static viewing.

Anyone who's got one care to give an opinion on how these are for reading pdfs, Word docs and the like?

I have hundreds of pdf files and Word docs and I spend a lot of time having to read them. Fed up of printing them off, and my SGS3 is just too small to be comfortable reading them on.

I really want a pdf/doc reader that I can carry around comfortably and that will give an easy reading experience. I'm not sure if the 7" display on the N7 is going to be adequate, though. After all, it's not that much bigger than the 4.7" display on my phone...

I'm also looking at the 10.1" Iconia A210, which should be fine for screen size but which weighs 710g. Obviously I'd like the smallest and lightest tablet that will do the job, so interested to know what pdfs look like on the 7" screen.

Oww I forgot about the mobile and tablet section! Loving my nexus! Although regret getting the 8gb one. Downloaded 3 games for it and only have about 1gb left. Should have my otg cable arriving today as well as a case. So I'll hopefully get to plug in an Xbox controller and see what game play is like. Obviously I didn't get it for games, but sometimes I can't be bothered playing a game on the PC or Xbox and find myself playing a game on my phone. I'm afraid my toilet breaks will be getting dangerously long.

I meant other than mavity, a clasp, clip, magnet or whatever.

It has no fastener.

Is there any way to make the stock lock screen rotate into landscape? Or is there a lock screen app that will do it yet not be rubbish (most of the lock screen apps I've used are rubbish).?
