Which office chair? (£1k maximum)

We have had trials for chairs to go into our new office. I believe the HM Embody has won out from the testing feedback. Roll on February for the new office and new workstations all round. I don't believe we will pay anywhere near rrp though!

I didn't like the Aeron, it didn't help my back problems at all but the Mirra from the same people is great. It looks odd but it's very comfortable and I've had no issues since. It's also a lot cheaper.

Have you been to a physio to get some help on your posture. I'd certainly stand up and move around more often, and since you know you've got bad posture you can try and address it. I think a lot of us here spend most hours a day sat at desks, or in seats, it's about making an active effort to sit properly as much as the quality of the chair.

I think the problem is too many people slouch and want a chair to hold them in position. We have things called core muscles, designed to keep our spines and trunk straight and in line.

I do find this thread fascinating - I had never envisaged one could spend so much on an office chair! That's why OcUK is so great - you learn new stuff every day!

I still do think you should address your posture first, before spending a fortune on a chair, if you don't intend on sitting properly in the first instance. :)

Sorry if you think I'm trolling or not helping, but with fitness and body mobility being my passion it's the first thing I consider...

Had an Aeron at home, lovely chair and about £250 if you get one off the bay second hand. I use the Mirra at work which is ok too.

Whatever you don't buy a a lower end Herman Miller aka Aeron or Mirra.

They are very poor chairs by today's standards. The embody is fine as it has active back support, and does not cut off circulation to the lower legs.

The Aeron is 13 years old - and isn't that great by today's standards. The Mirra on the other hand is absolutely fine.

Thanks for the replies. I should have mentioned in the first post I've been to specialists about posture/workspace arrangement and go to a chiropractor. For the last 5 years I've gone to the gym 3-4 times a week plus do running/cycling/tennis, so no, I'm not trying to make up for "not exercising and living off Cheetos".

Anyway, I think the 'Herman Miller Embody' has been recommended the most so I'll probably try that out.

Cool - glad to hear you've sought professional advice and that you're doing something about it.

Good luck with your chair buying! :)

Potentially, but it depends what his doc has said and the level of intensity, and any form issues with his sports. It's not really for me to say.

It's okay, I already knew the answer. I just wanted to express concern without sounding like more of an ass :D

They are in effect the same chair, all be it with a few tweaks. The mirra is shockingly bad for it's price point. There are far far better options out there for a similar price point.

Price aside, it is a very good chair. It holds the FIRA Ergonomics excellence award and is used as the standard demo piece for whatever government body deals with health and safety education.

I think people are paying a bit too much attention to Herman Miller chairs. I got my Embody chair for £800 from a HM reseller - businesses buying several will get substantial discounts.

Hi,

Over the last 6 months I've tried out quite a few office chairs from Staples and currently have an Ikea Markus, but they all hurt my back after a few hours of use. I work as a programmer so sit for 6-10 hours a day (with breaks).

I'm considering trying out the Herman Miller Aeron Office Chair, Size B (a massive step up in price at £899 but returnable within 7 days if it's no good), I also saw the Herman Miller Embody chair recommended, but can't find any shops that stock it with a decent return policy.

Does anyone have feedback on the Herman Miller Aeron B, or recommendations for other chairs before I try the Herman Miller?

Thanks in advance.

I just googled and it turns out I sit on one of these at work at Barclays.. I had NO idea they cost so much lol!

Honestly they annoy me.. I still havent figured out how to make it stick in one position and not move around.

Is it worth £900? HEELLLLL NO

Are you insane?
