Guild Wars 2

What is even funnier is someone who says GW2 won't last a year.

I honestly don't think it will. The gameplay is just too shallow and streamlined to keep peoples interest once the initial hype dies down.

I'd love to be proved wrong, but i don't see anything in GW2 to keep hardcore gamers interested for very long. And i really wanted to love GW2 and tried, but its just so boring and generic.

So you're a PvEer then.

The PvP is shaping up nicely. Of course it's still in it's infancy, most people are still playing through the story and no one can definitively say they know the best builds etc yet, but it's looking very balanced. Definitely going to be more fun than the mess that was WoW (rock paper scissors, assuming you'd put in the weeks needed to grind gear).

WoW is probably the best PvE MMO out there, I played it for a long time and I've never experienced anything like the raids on there in another MMO. PvP is a joke though, there's no proper balance between the classes, it's like it was an afterthought. It makes sense in BGs where there's large team fights but in arenas where comp matters, it's horrible. Blizzard has never been able to balance arenas (and understandably so, there's hundreds of skills and PvE to take into account).

ANet goes at it in a different way. By limiting what skills you can take, they can aim some skills more at PvE and some more at PvP thus letting them balance individual skills better for their area.

This game will only get stronger and better, it damn good as it is, and yes ofc it will appeal to all but I would almost bet my house it has a bigger player base in 24! Months time to what it has now.

Their expansions are always great, don't see why that would change, they will bring in things like guild halls etc, this game has amazing potential.

The other day, me and 2 guildies were walking across a mountain, heading to a vendor to pick up salvage kits when all of a sudden 2 huge rock boulders fall from the sky.

We destroy these big ice crystals, when all of a sudden a dragon drops from the sky. A dragon so big that I can't zoom out far enough to fit it on screen and have to run away to take a screenshot. We then proceed with about 40 other people to slowly take down his defence wall and then take away his health with some charzookas.

This was so boring and generic.

The dungeons are so bad. I did AC the other day and was less than impressed with the encounter design - not a good start. I was only level 30 though when I did it so I put this down to being under levelled/geared. Just done a run of CM and wow - first boss can kill you with no telegraph, how can you dodge without one... stupid. The rest of the instance was a total face roll, and then the cut scene at the end - What the hell, it made no sense.

Ill try doing TA tomorrow but I suspect more of the same poor design. It's a good job the rest of the game is excellent

What was wrong with AC out of interest? TA was really fun, especially the last boss fight.

Gw2 isnt about pve......

why do you think the final reward for the storyline mission is a PVP item?

anyway who remembers GW will recall how the expansions totally changed the game, an EOTN style addon for Gw2 would be pretty epic

The encounter design is just pretty lackluster, the only thing that has a remotely interesting mechanic is the lovers and it's really still pretty basic.

(This is re story - I wont get to touch explorable until this weekend.)

The complaints re outdoor bosses have circled a few times and theyre understandable - it's pretty much impossible to fail against the shatterer etc, you just auto attack him to death, collect loot and enjoy the spectacle.

The level 80 outdoor bosses e.g. priest of grenth are failable, though not because they're mechanically complex it's because moving out of red circles is just too hard for some players. My favorite guys to fight are the eye enemies in Orr, their attacks have tells but theyre quick enough to be pretty fun to fight.

My only issues with outdoor content though are that travel costs are prohibitive and it's hard to know where non local events are actually happening.

Aside from that - can anyone make the exotic lvl 80 rifle? I have all of the mats except the blood which I can probably farm. Just need a crafter.

Lastly:

Big gun! :D

Did they ever enable guesting yet (I saw talk of it during the beta). I know you can join people on different overflow servers, but they were supposed to allow you to join a home server to play with friends, without a fee, but you dont get to join WvW

That won't be in until they are happy with servers and stop the free server transfer element.

OminousLatinNoun - is that male human or norn? I guess human but want to check.

I've made a ranger but not all that happy with medium armor. Seen lots of awesome looking heavy armor around though!

For those of you who are struggling to get into GW2 and say that it doesn't have the longevity of WoW; was Wow your first MMO?

The reason I ask is because I think there is a lot to be said about 'first mmo' syndrome. I spent about 3 years after leaving my first mmo just looking for a replacement for it and I found nothing because no mmo was that game (many were actually technically far better).

Anyone know anywhere reliable for keys that has them in stock at a decent price? I have a second copy for the wife reserved at Gamestation to pick up this morning but they're charging £49.99 now.

I have this site bookmarked for £36.99 but never used or heard of them before http://electronicfirst.com/pc-game-...iled-instant-download-pre-order-release-date/
CJS-CDKEYS are charging £49.99

HMV had it for 39.99 gotta go into store to grab it but not bad. tesco 33.99 i believe.

Unfortunately there are a lot of them about, most of whom seem to have missed the incredibly rough WoW launch. Last night on Map chat I read some guy claiming that Warcraft was the first real MMO.

For me the two to three times a week casual gamer the game is perfect really perfect.

Makes me want to update my GFX card to see those stunning views better.

You're not going to be impressed with Arah :D

Random question, but does anyone elses fps counter in the options menu stop at 50?

My TFT is set to 60Hz, in game its set to 60Hz, I have framerate limited in game to 60. Yet my FPS counter never EVER goes over 50...

Is this just bugged? Might have to slap on fraps and see what that says I'm actually running at.

Every other game runs at 60fps as you'd expect.
