**CRAZIEST SSD DEAL YET: 120GB SSD ONLY £43.99 Inc. VAT!**

I ordered one of these, haven't got it yet cause i was out.

Just for comparisons sake i ran that AS SSD bench on my old SSD (Samsung MMCRE64G5MPP, single), it doesn't appear to have aged well :( infact i wouldn't be surprised if it was on its last legs.

Wasn't great to begin with mind, but the sequential writes were closer to 80 when new, reads seem about the same :), 594 day power on count.

Still better than a mechanical drive!

me and nkata, and anyone that I assume bought these "new" drives all have the worse version after OCZ switched the flash chips in them with worse ones.

You can tell this easily by our drives show 107.13gb compared to your 111.79gb.

My drive shows 111.79gb and I bought one of these "new" ones

I'm assuming you are trying to update this as a secondary drive?

This version of the Tootlbox also does not support Intel RST 10.0/10.1 series AHCI drivers. And possibly even later versions (IE. 11.x).

Depending on what your answer/s to the above are... I'd then try updating / flashing with the W7 stock AHCI drivers (IE. uninstall Intel RST drivers).

If it still happens. Then try flashing it several times in a row, sounds daft I know, but I've seen cases where it suddenly just works (no BS).

If still failing. Then I would suggest trying the standalone Linux utility that OCZ have on their WEB site. Never known this fail.
Found here:

Hope this helps.

Can you run AS SSD and post the results?

Showing 111.79GB. Do the results look OK?

Wonder why some have got the 'new' ones and some have got the 'old' ones? I'm sure I read this was the last batch of these in the UK so one would assume they'd all be identical.

just had mine delivered. it is showing 107.13gb in windows.

so i take it mine is the crappy model? Should i return it?

Same for me as well, a bit annoyed but considering it was £50 and that I'm using it on an old mobo and processor I doubt I'd notice much, if at all any, difference in performance so I'm just going to keep it!

I did not know there was a crappy model and good model?

Have I got the Vertex2 then and not the Vertex 2E? As I too only have 107.13gb and shows as 115GB in BIOS.

**EDIT**

Is this why some people have much higher write rates? Because they're on the 111GB? I noticed the 111GB picture from a bit above has better write.

Here's my drive that's the best part of 2 years old. Recently Secure Erased and flashed to latest firmware. Now used as a data drive (used to be my boot drive):

Slightly better than when I benched it new/empty. Probably the later firmware, plus running Intel RST 10.5 now.

PS. To get the best 4k writes when benchmarking. Either disable Intel speedstep, or have something running in the background (EG. one Prime 95 worker) that forces your CPU to boost to it's max OC.

With the Intel RST do you just download and install software in Windows or do you need to download the floppy thing too?

Hi... it's to do with the NAND that's used in them. The older (and faster) drives used 34nm NAND, while the newer drives used 25nm NAND.

There's a link above in another post to an article on Tom's Hardware.

PS. Though whether you would notice any real world difference in day-to-day use is doubtful.

Just download the right one's for your copy of Windows / mobo and install. If they don't perform any better (not guaranteed) then you can just simply uninstall them.

That's disappointing knowing I've paid the same price as some people who basically have a different and better drive.
