As rob said, the gold comes from being the last hit on the minions and if you kill or provide an assist a champion. If you spectate one of the games you see displayed then there is a button to toggle gold so you get an idea of gold flow. If you play a support champ you go for gold/5 items which are items which provide you with gold over time so you arn't reliant on the last hit and can do us on support.
On the first post of this thread I've pushed a load of info to help new players so worth a look. Best thing is dive into games and it will start making sense. Before level 20 the game can play differently but the concepts remain the same regarding gold
This has to go down as one of my favourite game endings. We teamed up with 2 randoms and blimey they were hard work. Anyway you join the game we have just lost the whole team with the exception of TF and they are going for our Nexus.

If you played the game you could have probably followed the controversy better my friend. MLG have massive pie on their face for how they worded their statements. At this point it is known that the disqualification is purely because of the ARAM that both teams decided to play. The punishment is accepted by both teams, Dignitas specifically gave their team hell for it (with the team having to pay their sponsor back the travel allowance + sponsor share of the winnings that were taken away).
Both teams and sponsors are very adamant about there being no collusion however, which is quite obviously the case. Because collusion is illegal and would have resulted in at least one of the teams being dropped from their sponsors and most likely legal action taken aswell. However they aren't going to take it up officially with MLG because suing a major tournament provider would probably not be the best idea (you don't bite the hand that feeds you, etc). Words have been passed around behind the scenes though, you can be sure of that.
Regardless I'm not going to talk anymore about it, it's got nothing to do with LoL and I hate drama anyway. Just weighed in because you were making such a big deal about it and wanted to clear a few things up.

Depends how serious you wanna get, if you want to have 10 rune pages and all different runes for each champion you play then yeah it can be expensive, but you can always just create 3/4 generic pages for all role's instead.

No what you said was, or rather quoted that there had been no evidence of collusion yet what they were DQ'd for was obviously collusion.
Also Valve wishing they could throw more money at dota
?And it was more to do with e-sports as a whole as behaviour like that ruins it never mind Riot trying to wriggle there way out of this whole new exclusive to LoL and no other moba garbage, which is a really pity it didn't follow through.
Also@ Mcknight, where is it known that teams were DQ'd for ARAM? MLG's statement clearly states DQ'd for conspiring to effect results/brackets etc. Nothing to do with game mode played.

Yeah I bought that too because saving 60k IP just didn't seem worth it compared to the RP cost. I've bought a few champs with RP when I can't be bothered to save for them.
The only thing I spend RP on is skins, really was tempted by the Blitz piltover skin but £9 for a skin just seems too much, even if I hardly spend any money on this game and feel guilty about it

we were massively behind, and as the want with some teams they started mucking around - missed the baron, got aced and then we stayed to long in their base (as well as the two randoms being utter twits) and lost 4 of our team. Outrageous that tf managed to just squeeze it. The chat afterwards was pretty sane if I remember it - the had most of the play and lost the game - gutting
