I have read quite a few reviews on these two coolers, but I still can't make up my mind on which one I want.

Any one have a preference on these two?

Thermalright Archon Rev. B CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/1155/1156/1366/2011/AM2/AM3) [Archon SB-E]

Thermalright HR-02 Macho CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1156/LGA1155/LGA1366) [HR-02 Macho]

Archon is slightly better but the true spirit 140 is as good as the archon with an overclocked CPU and way cheaper.

For the price of that archon, you can get a dual tower cooler.

Care to recommend one mate? I was looking at the Archon/Macho because they are both nice and quiet. Don't want anything too loud (or too massive for that fact)

I have a Fractal R4 case, I was worried the Archon wouldn't fit because it's pretty tall?

An archon would just fit tight as maximum cpu cooler height for the r4 is 170mm

Doyll shoe-horned a Phanteks into his R3, so you ought to be fine with an R4. Then again, he did mount it vertically...

If you want to play on the safe side, a D14 or a K2 will fit your case and your requirements if your budget allows.
A silver arrow will probably go too, but not at the current OcUK price unfortunately... Look for the SB-E extreme elsewhere as OcUk don't sell it and it has even better clearance due to two 140mm fans vs 140mm/150mm on the 'standard' SB-E model.

Thanks mate. The Silver Arrow Extreme SB-E looks pretty good and 165mm height should be fine in the case. Just one question about memory clearance - will I need low profile RAM?

The SA sbe would be my call as well but you would have to search for good prices...

And yeah, you need low profile memory modules.

Thanks to doyll:

Here's some cooler sizes

Cooler size comparison
K2 . = . 140x128x158mm 146x154x160mm w/fans (WxDxH looking from front of case)
D14 = . 140x130x160mm 140x158x160mm w/fans
TC14 = 140x134x160mm 140x159x171mm w/fans
SA . = . 147x123x160mm 151x149x160mm w/Fans
SB-E. = 155x105x164mm 170x130x170mm w/fans
Extreme 155x105x164mm 155x130x165mm w/fans Reason it's smaller is 140mm fan vs 150mm fan.

K2, D14 & TC14 are about same except for TC14 140mm fans & 31mm RAM clearance stack up to 171mm (my R2 is 165mm clearance and TC14 fits)

SB-E is widest by 15mm. Even wider with TY-150 fan = 170.

Extreme with TY-143 fans is still 151.5mm

Oh, and he has an R2, not an R3. My bad.

I mounted it vertical because the R2 has 120mm back vent that doesn't align with cooler and top has 2 140mm vents... and fan wouldn't fit over RAM

Grow some gonads mate. Get the SA SB-E Extreme. :D

Same cooler as SA SB-E with TY-143 fans... with 130cfm @ 2500rpm
Just as quiet as TY-141 & TY-150 at same rpm but you have much more cooling when you wind them up

Will send some links to info when I get back to my puter.

Will this fit in my Fractal R4 case?

Heatsink Specifications:
- Dimension: Length 155mm x Width 53mm x Height 170mm(175mm with TY-150)

R4:
CPU coolers up to 170mm tall (when no fan is installed in the side panel)

Is the 175mm (with ty-150) the height measurement or the length?
175mm is their height.. but I take many of Thermalrights measurements with a grain or 3 of salt...

http://www.thermalright.com/products/index.php?act=data&cat_id=27&id=189
The spec TY-141 Length 170mm x Width 26.5mm x Height 150mm:eek:
When it is actually 151x26.5x141mm

If you want the TY-141 / TY-151 fan combo I want more TY-143 fans.. We might be able to work out a deal for you to order the SA SB-E Extreme and a TY-141 & TY-150 then sell me the TY-143 fans. ;)

Setup your trust account and drop me a note if you are interested.

Get the noctua d14 mate it's just better I own an archon and a d14 the archon shares the same fan mount clips as the silver arrow basically you aren't changing fans without taking the motherboard out and the anti vibration mounts consist of a couple of flimsy rubber strips that fall off ended up superglueing a bit to my ty-14 they are great coolers and the archon from my findings is neck and neck with the d14 but loses out when you start dropping rpms on fans whilst the noctua is a joy to behold just exudes more quality and thought with a far better fan mount system can swap fans without removing anything and anti vibration slots for these thick rubber strips.

I agree with much of what this guys saying about the fan mounts and actual fittings as the archon has the same fiddly system as the silver arrow which is fine though if you are going to fit the fans and cooler once then forget it.

Effin lol! I was waiting for that :D

Oh gawd, someone had to mention ttl... Sigh. The guy couldn't even figure out how to install the cooler without asking me and his results contradicts his conclusion.

You can easily change the fans without taking out the cooler. It's simpler than the noctua even.

Anyway this is a different silver arrow.

yea what I meant was getting the fan clips in and out of the heatsink so say you want to add a second fan or third fan it's a massive problem to get the fan clips in as they go through a hole on the bottom and top but the anti vibration solution is a joke really but no way is it simpler than the noctua especially changing the far left fan blood is normally spilt

I saw that ttl guy on the tube a while back I never said a word though as didn't want to boost his ego but i was tempted to say you are running your power supply round the wrong way
