Any reason against this car? MG ZT 190

Irrelevant I could spend 3k on that car tomorrow keep it for 3 years then bin it or spend 2k on it in 4 weekstime when it hasn't sold, keep it for 3 years then bin it.

Just because its only a few grand rather than multiples of ten doesn't mean its a good idea to pay (what I would say) is about 50% over the odds for the thing.

Its not exactly a rare car the ZT

I disagree that the going rate for an 04 plate 26k mile ZT is £2k. But lets assume that £2k is the going rate for an 'average' ZT - which I'd imagine it was.

£1k doesn't seem so much of a premium to pay to lift yourself out of the average examples. It'll be less after a haggle anyway.

I just had a look around in the usual places and only found one ZT190 for sale with less mileage for less money than that so I'm not sure it's over priced. It's a 1 owner, FSH car and that's damn rare on ZTs these days.
Make an offer. I'd pay £2800 for that any day of the week.

The going rate for an average 2004 zt is going to be closer to 1.5k (max), the dealer might not even have paid a grand for it. I just dont think it makes sense to pay a huge proportion over what similar cars with slightly higher mileages (and I'm talking 40k not 140) will be sold for.

Its all slightly pointless anyway, it looks a nice example and I dont doubt he dealer knows its on at an extremely optimistic price its worrth going to see and seeing where things lie. If the op thinks its worth the premium.then fair enough

It's just at the very top end of the price for them. Go check it out offer the dealer £2500 and go from there, Enjoy your car.

There isn't a single 04 car with under 60k for £1500 on Autotrader.

There was a facelift version done in 2004 which (according to the internet) is worse than the pre-facelift - but they still sell for more. Most of the pre-facelift I've seen hover around the £2,000 but usually with 3x the mileage (not that it's a game-changer). For some reason I just like that one in my first post, only 26,000 miles and one owner appeals to me (perhaps naively). I would be part-exchanging a car which has a trade value of £2,000-£2,500 so there could be some room for haggling since the car isn't much more expensive.

Not at all with a car like that. I'd happily pay a bit of a premium for a car with one owner and little miles. It's not even a massive premium.

I know the facelift ZR was screwed together worse than the pre. I'd imagine the same with the rest, It was a last ditch attempt to save the brand and a cheap attempt at that from what I saw of the two.

Honestly you are making yourself sound stupid.

Agreed, macca you keep banging that broken drum. The ZT / 75 is regarded as a very capable platform, backed up by some excellent engines.

You'll always get the 'haters' though, amongst the regulars on here that know about cars and have bothered to experience a ZT / 75 or at least know what they're talking about, they look more than a little silly.

On a side note, I had a ZS for a good few years, while a very capable car it was nothing like the 75 / ZT. You can just tell Rover put effort into them, even a late 75 / ZT feels properly put together. My ZS always felt a little cobbled together - after all it was a 1990s Civic with hard suspension, dragged into the 21st Century.

I currently have a diesel 400 again, but will definitely consider a nice ZT again when the time comes, either in 190 or 260 form depending on house / career moves.

I still think 3k is a bit much, go in at 2.5 as mentioned and you're onto a winner. Low mileage is a plus, though - just means the hydraulics are probably original and therefore liable to fail at some point. Still, hardly a big bill for such an excellent car.

To the posted who knows 2 unlucky individuals with a ZT - it's quite rare they have such issues. The electrical issues are probably due to a flooded plenum chamber, a quick Google shows how to check for this. If it has done, whip the ECU from the plenum, open it up and clean any water residue off the PCB. Leave it to dry for a day or two, then back together - that'll probably sort it. Fixed mine.

Finally, willy waving time. This was my beloved ZT 190, with the driver intelligence pack and factory fitted 'Sport' suspension - god it was hard! I averaged around 27mpg from memory, got it down to 9 on a good drive though. :)

I pretty much stopped looking at 190s when I saw yours - I knew I wouldn't find one in that colour, and nothing else looked anything like as good. :p
