SSD's in RAID 0 are slow?

Hi I bought two of those 60GB SSD's recently. I set up a new install and changed the bios RAID setting, set up the RAID 0 configuration and installed the RAID driver from the MOBO website, and then loaded windows 8 onto it.

The problem I have is that they don't seem to be performing. I ran a Read write test on them. Read speed is just 254MB/s and write was 79MB/s. I thought the fact that I had them in RAID 0 meant I should be getting the speed of the drives combined when reading and writing to it?

Is there something that I am missing?

Please help!

You do have them connected to Sata III ports not Sata II.

You need to list the rest of your system specs then someone may be able to help.

Also posting a pic of your drives running the ATTO benchmark would also help.

By that do you mean the OCZ Vertex 2E 60Gb? If so, they're SATAII. You're not going to get much more out of the read speed.

As said, post an ATTO bench screenshot.

Ok I am at work now, but i will get ATTO (I assume it is free) and post up the results. Yes I do have those drives. When in raid I expected more as its meant to split the data and write simultaneously which should generate higher speeds.

Did you definitely setup Raid 0 not 1.
Check the chip set/sata controller manufacturer for a newer driver too :)

I would also try a few different bench tools just incase you're seeing some sort of worst case scenario.

I would also check your ssd firmware is latest and as a last straw check your mobo firmware as some older sata controllers didn't play amazingly with SSD.

Cheers for the advice alex. I didn't get a chance to test the drives last night, but I can tonight. I definitely set up RAID 0.

My chip set and sata controllers are all up to date as I did a fresh install with all the latest drivers etc.

The only thing i couldn't do before I installed was to update the firmware of the SSD's as it gave me an error saying that the update was rejected or something.

I will try some tests when I get home from work.

Cheers Wazza, i didn't get time to look at them last night, was building a rig for a friend, but I will over the weekend! Cheers, I want this sorted as the speed increase was the only reason for buying two ssd's and Raiding them.

A single 2E should be getting 270ish give or a take read and writes.

95% the main benefit of SSDs is the near-instant access times.

DONT get het up on the fact your not getting above 250MB/sec, because you won't notice the difference 99.9% of the time.

It's not the 250-270 im worried about. It is the 70-80 Write speed range it was giving to me that has me stumped.
