JBL ES250 400 watt RMS 12" subwoofer, any good?

The power of the speakers really isn't a good way of measuring things. What is the rest of your system, what are all your speakers, what amp do you have, what source?

Honestly I can only reiterate what has already been said, the BK subs will be far better than ANYTHING else at this price point.

i've posted a link which as loads of people has one and they are very very pleased with it.

just because it's not a well known sub in uk doesn't mean it's shuddery crap.

also what my worry is my front speakers are 200w each total 400w so surely having a 275w sub won't be enough if i turn up the volume at high?

If you turn up 2x 200W speakers and a 275W Sub to full blast the last thing you'll be worrying about is volume! More like your neighbours banging the door down.

Wattage is not something to overly worry about anyway. Quality components like the BK will be more than loud enough for the average home.

ok. i will order a xl200 hopefully on wednesday. i just hope it's right for me. i do like loud/powerful heavy bass when playing music. thats what i prefer/want

i'm asking because my amp as 2 sub outputs left/right so i guess i'd use them?

using the volume on the amp doesn't control the sub

so i'd set the sub volume on the back and set the amp (front/center/rear) volume then use the pc volume as a main control.... which im doing now with my current sub

Never really understood the XLS400, surely its worth waiting for another £30 and getting a Monolith?

Depends if you've got another £200 or so for room EQ after. The sealed nature of the 400 makes it easier to integrate in a room. The Monolith will potentially have more issues without EQ. All depends on your room but you won't know without having one in there. Expensive gamble ;)

Ahh, I see. Talking of which, any ideas where I can get hold of a DSPeaker sterea to Mono summing cable? Planning on getting an Antimode S in the not too distant future and need one of these to hook it up to the hi-fi amp.

Monolith is £480.90 including shipping
XXLS400 is £438.90 including shipping

so it's more than £30. and i don't wanna sell anything else really.

An amp with two sub outputs that doesn't control the volumn? what amp is this?

i received it last friday but guess what it's faulty. I'm hearing distortion at just under half volume. The best way to describe the distortion is that it 'farts'.it only happens on a certain bass note. The sub speaker isn't moving back and forth much at all. so i know im not over working it.

i called bk yesterday and explained to them . the tech guy and his boss said it could be air leakage or most likely the sub speaker is faulty. so they are getting picking it up today so they can fix it.

i'm abit ***** off, BK doesn't seem to reply to my emails since they've had my money. the only way to get answers is to call them. before i ordered the sub i was getting quick replys to my questions via email.

They hardly ever respond to emails. Phone is always best, they're a small outfit.
