EA Trying to buy Valve it would seem

I think - in all seriousness - if EA acquired Valve (and Steam) I'd quit PC gaming. Would buy a console and that would be that.

Steam is too sacred to us PC gamers to let EA get anywhere near it.

as for hl3 who actually cares about this now ?

Just about any pc gamer that liked part 1 and 2, despite what they say with the "hurr durr i dont care anymore", usually those people will be first inline to buy the thing, even with their online posturing to the contrary.

Thank goodness Gabe isn't in it for the money.

To be honest, he is - that's exactly why he said no to EA. EA would have done massive contract terminations and layoffs at Valve and used their branding instead. That's basically their modus operandi. Valve and Newell himself would have made far less money if they were bought out by EA.

The only good thing that would come out of EA buying Valve is that the EA top brass would tell Valve to get off their lazy arses and do something about the Half Life 3 development schedule that is already spilling over into the next generation and taking a massive risk of looking outdated as soon as it heads out the door. Their last two games are already looking significantly worse for wear compared to other games in the genre (CSGO and Portal 2)

It saddens me to think this is even a possibility, Steam is sacred to us PC gamers and is probably the single biggest reason PC gaming is a valid option.

There are much better deals outside of Steam if you know where to look, but I do agree, Steam is just... my baby.

Steam is like the jumbo jet or king among other download services even if latter have sometimes better deals.

Plus I find the user interface of steam in terms of ease of use, sheer accessibility to games, other features etc to be best among all the download services.

I wonder how passionate gamers who work for EA feel, every time they read threads such as these and know themselves that the company they work for is destroying the industry and hobby they love. Do they get sleep?

I don't get all this love for steam. Its pretty awful and is simply a delivery mechanism. I remember when seam first came out. Not much has changed since then. Except now ppl have just got used to it.

The love is based on it being a rock solid, fast delivery mechanism. That also happens to sell games cheaper than anywhere else a few times a year. Couple that delivery with a community system that makes it quick and easy to play and communicate with your mates, for free I might add.

If this is your idea of awful I'm afraid to ask what you consider good, is this simply hating on something for being popular I wonder.

A lot of us recall the launch of steam, as always with us humans, we dislike change, many disliked steam at launch because it forced them to install and run it to play their favorite games (half life) we'd never had to do something like this before, steam simply understood the direction gaming was heading 5 years before anyone else.

Back on topic, ra ra ra I love steam etc, glad they dodged the paws of filthy ea evil overlords.
