iPhone 5 Detail Today

They don't need to change their game until they are under threat - which at the moment they are not.

They are trying to get 8 models of Samsungs banned in the US, does that sound like a company that isn't worried about the compeition?

Apple market share in the phone market is dropping like a stone, they may still be making billions from the iPhone but that doesn't matter to the guy in charge of marketing when he's asked why they aren't making tens of billions anymore.

I'd like to question that phrasing they've used. 2x faster to me suggests that it's 3 times as fast as the original. So if the old one did something in 1.2 seconds, this would have to do it in 0.4. If it does it on 0.8 that's 1x faster.

Either they've made some serious improvements, or that's some cheeky wording. (And me picking holes in it :p )

2x faster is very ambiguous. It could be that the processor has twice the clock speed, but it doesn't mean it will execute things in half the time.

In your example, that would be 2 times more quickly ;)

The thing is they don't seriously need to do more than they have done - they are lapping up the monies and for good reason - its a great product for the masses and every Joe want's it and can afford it. It appeals to all sort of people from the chavs to the educated pro's. Apple are doing what they do best which is making lots of people happy at the same time as making LOLMONIES.

They don't need to change their game until they are under threat - which at the moment they are not. The other OEMS need to step up their game big time - all these half-assed Android phones make me shudder. None of them are perfect when they at-least one of them damn well should be. Rant over ;/

Really ? have you seen Android market share recently ?

S3 is due to do 30 million sales this year..

The jump is quite big in performance, camera and screen but the design was utter **** compared to what it could have been.

I believe the 5 to be a substantial jump from the 4s - screen size jump will be very welcome to a lot of people.

Performance gain is pointless, a 4 or 4s can do anything the 5 can do. For the most part the new processor is a waste of time..

It is?

They do it because they can - who wouldn't?

Wake me up when they aren't making the $$$.

Quality not quantity - are the're profits falling or rising?

I was talking about the jump from the S2 to S3...

Don't Apple sell that many iPhones roughly every 3 months? I think people seriously underestimate how popular it is.

It's also hardly a surprise they lose market share when they are competing with so many different Android phones, at so many different prices.

To be charging £500+ for a phone and still comfortably outsell everything else is nothing short of impressive, whatever you may think of Apple.

They haven't outsold anyone with the 5 yet.

I've no doubt the 5 will sell bucketloads, its the chav phone of choice and/or the correct fashion statement - I'll remind you dayglo tie die t-shirts were once in fashion too :)

Regardless android has been taking a huge bite out of the Apple market share, whichever way you look at it. I don't see Apple regaining that with this phone.

Having had a good look around it seems the general opinion is "meh".

It's interesting how the negative posters always end on a note such as this, with statements like the below:

It even has the passive aggressive smiley face. :p

Is it??

We just got our hands on Apple's latest smartphone following its unveiling in San Francisco, and suffice it to say, it's a beautiful thing.

http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2012-09/12/iphone-5-hands-on-preview

It's an impressive package......The hardware on the inside of this device is exceptional, and it's packaged in a design that gives much of the Android competition something to aim for.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/9539714/Apple-iPhone-5-hands-on.html

That it's made from a single piece of aluminium, rather than the cheap, plasticky case of some rival smartphones makes it all the more delightful as an object of design.

I see what you mean...

*sigh* whatever. If Apple are not feeling the heat from Android why did they sue Samsung, claiming that Samsung had caused them significant financial harm and loss of revenue?

You cite Engadget ? of course, they're non biased, right ?

I'm reading a number of forums all over the place and the reaction from the public is "meh".

Bit of a problem with the new connector, I'm reading that it wont support ipod out. So lets say you have an ipod/iphone compatible car stereo it'll still play music, but you wont be able to control the iDevice (next/prev track etc).

Since when the the US equal the world?

No wonder the Android platform, where new models appear every week, now represents 68% of the smartphone market, up from 47% a year ago, while Apple slid to 17% over the same period.

In case you're bad at maths, let me work that out for you: Android's market share is now four times that of Apple. Four times!

Because Apple since the founding of the company have vigorously defended their intelectual property through the courts?? Where they ment to sue and say 'ach we're the richest company in the world though, cost us **** all' no, they wanted samsung to pay for their theft. I actually think it was more of a plan to get some patent sharing going on.

So I wonder how long before people are saying the iPhone being light is a good thing, I remember when the SGS2 came out & people were saying it was too light!

Also to add to the SGS3 improvements from the SGS2, The Audio DAC is a lot better in the SGS3.

You really expect anything from the tech media? Everyone has to be on their best behaviour when they are invited to a launch. The iphone5 is flat out boring. The S3 wasn't that exciting either. Phone tech has already reached the point where the improvements aren't that noticeable.

Exactly what I was thinking. Wasn't it along the lines of "Light = Cheap" according to some peoples reasoning, now that will change to "yeah but its all about the materials"

To some extent yes but that wasn't the argument back when S2 came out.

questions. I know the plans/tarrifs etc are not out yet.
