iPhone 5 Detail Today

Why do the android guys use number of devices sold as an argument about why Android is better?

Far more Vauxhalls are sold than Porsches. Does that mean Vauxhall is a better car? Or does it just mean Android is cheap and plasticky...

Exactly what I was thinking. Wasn't it along the lines of "Light = Cheap" according to some peoples reasoning, now that will change to "yeah but its all about the materials"

To some extent yes but that wasn't the argument back when S2 came out.

Very much so! :)

I've got an S2, and would never want to change Android for iOS, but every time I pick up an iPhone 4/4s the sheer quality of the build strikes me. I love the weight of it. Think my next phone may well be a Nokia...

You really expect anything from the tech media? Everyone has to be on their best behaviour when they are invited to a launch. The iphone5 is flat out boring. The S3 wasn't that exciting either. Phone tech has already reached the point where the improvements aren't that noticeable.

So the guy who said 'everybody's reaction is meh' is actually just going by people who haven't even used the phone, and probably the android forums? lol

So I wonder how long before people are saying the iPhone being light is a good thing, I remember when the SGS2 came out & people were saying it was too light!

Also to add to the SGS3 improvements from the SGS2, The Audio DAC is a lot better in the SGS3.

It's not the weight that i think makes the S3 feel bad, it's the plasticy feel.

Though i do think the iPhone 4 is the goldielocks weight.

The 5 looks very classy and undersated in all black:

I rather liked the sides being silver on the black model, but that does look nice.

I think the video of Josh Topolsky handling it really shows what a nice piece of kit it is.

I'm reading a number of forums all over the place and the reaction from the public is "meh".

No, not the reaction from the public. The reaction from the very small percentage of the public which posts about phones on internet forums on launch day.

Not exactly a representative sample of those who will buy the new phone, is it? If you read forums with a tech inclination then of course you tend to get a majority of Android supporters and folk unimpressed with Apple. But you have to be aware that your sample is a long way from unbiased.

So apple losing 6% of it's total market share (about 1% of the entire world) in the space of a year is them sinking like a stone??

Where did I claim they were "sinking like a stone"

I was simply disagreeing with the notion that the iPhone is not under threat as was claimed by someone else. This is the problem with jumping into a conversation half way through.

I'am sorry but is anyone else finding Robbos comments just absolutely hilarious. Mate ever thought of being a politician? coming up with some god-awful reply containing terrible counter arguments to every anti iphone or apple post there is.

Its just quite amusing seeing how defensive the fan boys get and play the whole "why do we need NFC? we don't need x features" excuse whereas if apple somehow spun its propaganda rubbish towards how revolutionary NFC is then you'd be jumping all over it.

This has been a great day for the mobile world. It has finally shown that there can be a new birth in competition and if were any other phone company (not necessarily Samsung) I would be salivating at this chance to jump at a chance to put a mark in the industry. At the end of the day, the iphone 5 is an apple s2.

POOR

just POOR.

Err, what?!

What post of mine do you think is a 'fanboy' post? You are aware I have a Galaxy S 3 and can't praise it enough? I suppose not.

I think they should have added NFC, but it isn't a huge loss as nobody I know actually uses it, or can use it.

People so quick to throw the fanboy term around are usually fanboys themselves, as your post would suggest, calling it an Apple S2 - which it is not.

Hardware - Nice enough
Software - Still the weakpoint

That's what I've been thinking. Hardware wise there's been nothing epic and new for a while, just small increments that don't make much difference. As an example the IP5 is shipping with the same camera as the 4S (yes they've compacted the lens slightly but the sensor is the same and the rest essentially is). It's becoming more about the software; pre ICS/JB iOS looked better, no doubt, but it doesn't anymore. They look different and people might prefer one over the other on style but it's way more subjective. And on that front Apple just don't seem to be able to keep ahead/keep up.

It's not just for paying for things with you know? I use it between my GN and N7 to transfer webpages, photos, or with friends to do the same or contacts etc, it actually is quite useful.

They haven't outsold anyone with the 5 yet.

I've no doubt the 5 will sell bucketloads, its the chav phone of choice and/or the correct fashion statement - I'll remind you dayglo tie die t-shirts were once in fashion too :)

Regardless android has been taking a huge bite out of the Apple market share, whichever way you look at it. I don't see Apple regaining that with this phone.

Having had a good look around it seems the general opinion is "meh".

Wow you are such a fanboy it's just hilarious.
