StarDrive is part of the Space Sector’s sci-fi/space games you can’t miss in 2012 list, and it is definitely a very promising space game to look for this year.

For the ones of you that are not yet familiarized with this title, StarDrive was announced to the world in December of last year through the kickstarter crowdfunding platform. The pledge was a success and Daniel DiCicco (StarDrive’s single-man show developer) received support from 647 backers to finish his game (+135% more than he asked for).
StarDrive is a real-time 4X space strategy game with a bit more action to it than usual in 4X games. It will provide more action because on top of the traditional 4X features StarDrive will let you control your flagship in an arcade shooter kind of way. The game is currently in alpha stage and is available at Desura, where you can pre-purchase it and have access to the current alpha builds all the way through closed beta (to happen somewhere in spring time), followed by final release, which is targeted for this summer.

WIP, looks interesting!

Neil, do you have your own site with all these on?

I find that tracking them on here can be a nightmare when looking for older threads :(

No no no, that's not good enough. As AHarvey says, you should track it all on a website for us - great idea!

;)

StarDrive has started its debut on Kickstarter, having attained 2.35 times the money ($17.676 in total) Dan asked for it to complete his work. The game was very well received by the 4X strategy community due to its promising highly modular ship design feature and slightly different space combat, that has a bit more action to it than usual in 4X games. That’s why StarDrive is an action-strategy space 4X game, perhaps the first of its kind.

Saw the title of the thread and thought, how on earth have they managed to make a 4X4 strategy game? Then I realised it was a standard Neil79 4X thread. :p

Out of interest Neil, what spec is your PC if mainly playing emulated and indie games with the odd triple A thrown in?

I'm currently playing Ass Creed 3 in high Detail, when not writing articles and also in my spare time playing some Amiga games. All my time at the moment though is spent looking and writing for the site and sending out emails to specific companies. Everytime I get to play a game, something comes out that interests me :p

It's even more addictive than when I used to post news on ocuk :D

- Moving house again mid April, which will be fun!

I thought you would using an older system than that. As mine is long overdue an upgrade and I doubt I need the same level of power as that. Roll on Intel's Haswell.

been playing the beta since yesterday. Absolutely love this game!!

Reminds me a lot of star trek armada series.
Really like the sense of scale, and love the ship building.

Does anyone know if you can download other peoples ship designs? honestly just getting a capital class hull designed in the shipyard took me like 20 minutes, and it didnt work out very well.
Woudl love to be able to get some experts ship design :)
