US official killed in embassy raid in Libya

These savages should take a leaf out of the West's book. Try watching a film called Life of Brian sometime when you stop frothing at the mouth over the most stupid crap you inhuman brutes.

Yeah, that's what I said too.

Take Life of Brian for example. It's a religious satire about Jesus. Sure, there was an backlash from angered Christian groups, but they don't go around killing people do they?

I actually think we could learn a lot about Islam's ideological concerns about the image, in all very grandiose and quite metaphysical terms, and I think a lot that is so corrosive about our supposedly 'permissive' Western society is down to the pernicious influence of the Image... and so on and so forth... but nothing really forgives the fact that they are committing acts of barbarism against innocent people for no real reason. They only debase themselves with this sort of act.

I'm getting ****ing sick of seeing these filthy people whinging about everything including their made up God, day in day out. There's a reason why the Middle East is still in the dark ages and why it'll remain there for the foreseeable future, these people are incapable or rational thought and civilised behaviour and i'm hoping that one day someone would have had enough and just nukes them as there literally will be no loss of life due to them being animals.

I think this whole situation is at boiling point and i'm waiting till it boils over.

Actually the Middle-East was far ahead of the rest of the world on science and maths whilst we were going through a religious Dark Ages (where surely that term and concept derives from). Which is quite funny. The Middle-East is not a barbaric and intellectually backwards place. It just hasn't developed into liberal democracy (which is a very Western European thing, and there is nothing to say it necessarily works best for all peoples and cultures-- contrary to what the US cultural imperialists will tell you).

What you are seeing reported is the actions of the extremists in their society. Whilst they probably have more extremists as a percentage of their population as say us they will have a large number of moderate population too, who believe in their religion but also want to have a life instead of dedicating all their time and thinking to it.

See Anders Brievik to see what western right wing extremists are capable of..

Also I'm intrigued what he is "waiting to boil over" for. To join the armed forces? To complain on Internet forums more? Our apparent will and arrogance to want to change these people's culture is quite alarming. What do you want it to boil over into? Another expensive and un-winnable armed conflict? Helter-skelter?

We cannot learn anything here, that we already know.

We are as savage as those who practise violence, by practising apathy instead.

Really? So to ignore something potentially offensive and get on with your daily business is as savage as killing someone innocent over it?

I think we idolise and fetishize the Image too much in Western society. Too much superficiality, too much sexualisation of everything, too much taken on appearances. The banning of religious images in Islam is actually connected to some quite deep and profound philosophical reasoning. It's not just a pointless barbarism (though it certainly may seem outdated in the age of camera-on-everything technology). There's a well-rooted cultural fear of the Image that pervades certain cultures and societies. I don't think it's categorically bad, least of all 'backwards'. Although of course, as I said in my first post, reacting to these taboos by killing innocent people is completely unforgivable; this is an extremist act.

I am saying that allowing our representation to do as they please without care is what is destructive.

Instead of trying to fix our society, we have resorted to continuing our apathy instead.

Our apathy caused the murder of ten's of thousands of innocent beings in the middle east in the past few decades, their violence has only caused a small percentage of that.

Your first sentence there is the issue. These people are not our representation. By stating that, you are making exactly the same mistake that the eejits who are burning everything western in sight are making.

To be honest i'm not even sure who 'our' is. I'm simply saying western as they've gone after German buildings, British and others as well as American. The film was released in the US, but again as stated, made by God only knows who.

And why should we have to fix our society? What is wrong with the right to open and free speech? The discussion have already been had in this thread of 'what if I insulted your mother etc etc' well, tbh i'd tell you to grow up and get on with your life. This is what any human being should do.
If we all went around killing everyone that every called us a name we'd be in a pretty sorry society.

Also look at it this way, if their God is so powerful, why isn't he the one doing the smiting of the wicked?

I also think you'll find far more people in the middle east have been killed by their own people rather than western intervention (or lack there of).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_bombings_in_Iraq_since_2003

Final paragraph of first section. Over 12000 Iraqis killed by suicide bombs alone. None of those suicide bombers were Western Christians/Jews. That's not including the rest of the middle east. How was it our apathy that caused that? It was their internal religious fighting that did it.

First of all i was changing the comparison to be correct, you assume i was comparing directly about the video, which i wasn't.

This is not about the video, not really, it just happens to be a nice reason to start getting people angry.

But i find it repugnant that people just go about their days as if they aren't killing people by proxy, we all take responsibility if we cant make those who we made responsible to take care of this, responsible.

This whole lack of care is beyond irritating, I will love it when a dystopia rains down on our kingdom and people don't even notice.

I'm sorry but I really don't understand what you're trying to say here. Forgive me if I'm just being a bit thick!

This is stupid, if Americans did this over in Pakistan, the police would behead them in public themselves...... Yet in the UK i bet half of these flag burners like andy choudry are still getting 30k a year in benefits off us!

Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Qandil said:
"Egyptians, Arabs, Muslims - we need to reflect the true identity of Muslims, how peaceful they are, and talk to the Western media about the true heart of the Muslims, that they condemn violence," said Mr Qandil.

"At the same time we need to reach a balance between freedom of expression and to maintain respect for other peoples' beliefs.

Sounds fair enough to me.
