Encourage me - S3

Don't want to start a flame war but a balanced opinion is needed around here. There are far too many people saying "lol iphone my SGSIII is so much better and has been for months" without actually know both sides to the coin.

The thing is, Android is just as simple (especially since TW/Sense). They do just work, except the option is there to fiddle with it if you want.

This guy makes a good point. I was a die hard android fan until one day last November I lost my SGSII on a night out. The next day I went to car phone warehouse and they had no SGSII and I got an iPhone (traitor!). Anyway, I never felt as though I missed Android, the iPhone did everything I needed and faster. Typing was quicker too, which is a big plus.

On Wednesday I put my iPhone in to get fixed and I am back using an Android phone (Galaxy Ace 2). I must say I still love Android, I really do. I did have to spend 2 hours configuring it to the way I liked it and I think this is the issue here. If you want something that 'just works' (dont shoot me) then get the iPhone. If you want to play around get an Android.

I am nearly 30 now and the novelty of playing around is wearing off. At the end of the day they are both fantastic platforms, but I dont think one should be ****ged off over another.

The SGIII is faster than the iPhone 4s, but so what? Its not just the speed its the OS and so forth.

I must say I agree, I have had a 3g to SGS and then S2 then 4s, and in most cases I have found the iPhone to be a faster and smoother experience, I was 100% sure that android couldnt keep me on their side (with 2.3) but then ICS and JB has really pushed the platform forward. On JB I dont need to really change anything, it just works and dare I say it works better then iOS in a lot of areas. I think right now its more or less the same, just pick what ever OS you like. One clear area the iPhone wins in is the quailty of the thing, only thing that comes close form the android camp is the one x.

It seems that you like to tweak your phone a bit. However, I'd say that there is a "just works" approach to iOS that makes it hugely appealing. As you said, you can get all of those features in Android.

I'd still say that while the S3 has great hardware, the software is still only okay. Best bet is to play with an S3 to get a feel for TouchWiz, as well as a play with a GNex (if you can) to get a feel for stock Android/AOSP such as CyanogenMod.

Best bet is to go and have a play, not much more can be suggested really.

I took the plunge anyway and bought one from ebay. He replied to my email (about shipping) and I got this responce

"Hi mate

I lost my phone last night. So I will not be able to complete the sale. I will refund you your money. I will be getting a new one so when Ido I will let you know and if you are interested then we can do some business..

THANKS"

Oh my. That was half an hour ago... would've thought he would transfer it back immediately.

Any updates?

Your sig definitely needs to be renovated...:P

Might be looking at contacting eBay at this point...sounds "slightly" suspicious that this person who isn't selling you anything didn't refund the money immediately, to be honest...!

I opened a PayPal case thing earlier for "product not received". I've sent him 2 emails since he emailed me... If I've not heard anything by the end of the day I think I can escalate the PayPal case - not sure.

Well he replied saying the payment is on hold so he can't transfer it back. Though Paypal said this:

I understand that the seller has confirmed he will refund this payment, however I can see that you have also raised a dispute for this item. I can confirm for you that this payment has been placed on hold in the sellers account and this is due to the dispute that was raised for the transaction. The hold is placed onto the payment to ensure it is not withdrawn to a bank account and so that we can recover the money for you should the case be found in your favor.

In the instance where the seller is agreeing a refund, they will still be able to issue this payment back to you despite the payment being on hold. If they log in to there PayPal account, go to their resolution centre, they will be able to answer the case and agree to send the payment back to you.
Sigh..
Sent him that snip so hopefully he does it!

I rang up Paypal and got them to escalate the case, if the seller doesn't respond within 10 days on the 11th I will get my money back (so far he hasn't done so).

I didn't want to wait that long so I bought another phone from eBay which got delivered on Friday. The battery didn't charge past 75% overnight (it was plugged into my iPad charger - don't see why this would matter) and via my computer it didn't seem to go up at all. I couldn't root it either for some reason.

I returned that yesterday so it should arrive back with the seller on Tuesday for a full refund. Once I get the money back I will then be on the hunt for another phone from eBay and hopefully I can root it and it charges :p
