He unfortunately became so unwell we asked the family to leave so that we could help him, we weren't able to and he passed away. We called the family back in and the dog sat on the bed and howled in sadness.....

Man that's spooky, it passing away and then howling afterwards!

Dogs are very smart animals, they are indeed mans best friend, cats can be the same also.

I know its not the same, but still, my sisters pet rabbit died the other week, our dog got on with the rabbit like mans best friend, anyway, the rabbit died and my sister and mum buried the rabbit in the garden, the dog had obviously noticed and it had an effect on her, she spent the next week constantly sat outside next to the patch of grass the rabbit was buried and would not move from it for hours at a time looking really depressed and out of character for her.

Dogs are not dirty, why shouldn't a dog be let into a ward.

I've been a qualified nurse for 11 years plus my training and a health care assistant before that, in all the units I've worked in we have let dogs visit for special reasons. Never been an issue.

What nursing job do you do out of interest, rotters?.

I'm a senior staff nurse in an intensive care unit. Awesome but heart wrenching job sometimes. I love the technological side of care, using science and technology to fix people when we can.

Good job fella. You have my utmost respect. It's a difficult aspect of the job to get your head around ( I'm a crew commander in the fire and rescue service ) but as you'll know it's something we get very good at dealing with over time.

However, that's not to say that there's the odd occasion we sometimes let a little bit through the tiny chinks in our emotional armour. I actually think it benefits you in the long run to do so.
