Neg. People in prisons make no distinction, all they see is the uniform that has taken away their liberty.

I feel as if it's needed so people don't kill and actually think twice of what they're going to do. A lot of people seem to think despite what you do, once in prison life is bliss etc.. Maybe they don't care if they go to prison, or they have nothing to live for.

But people such as the police, army, firemen work to save lives and make our country a better place. I don't agree on the wars, but these people are just doing their jobs. For unarmed women to get shot in the line of duty is just sickening. You really have to be one twisted sick individual to go and do that.

Show's how desperate one can get just to get away. Ergh.
 
I know you didn't address me directly,but what do you mean by escalating it in a never ending cycle?
Had the officers been armed they could have returned fire,or opened first if necessary,and maybe one or both could have lived.

An unarmed police force is an anachronism these days and only serves to appease the hand wringers.

No, I don't support routine arming, well not in my part of the country anyway. There might be an argument for doing it in London, Manchester or Birmingham but in Hampshire there is simply no need.
 
I really think all police officers should be allowed to carry guns, but be trained to use them properly. I know this sort of thing is pretty rare, but if you are in a dangerous job like that you should be given the ability to protect yourself.

There isn't a country in the world which has the death penalty, that does not have murder statistics. Calling for the death penalty is stupid. It is not a deterrent.

Here in Northern Ireland the cops are armed and yet despite that, they rarely pull or use their firearms, even when coming under fire from paramilitaries. There's a hell of a lot of rules and regulations to follow in regards to pulling your weapon from it's holster here. It would be the same if the UK mainland implemented it for regular bobbies.

I think the last time an officer shot someone here it was during a hold up at a garage and the officer pulled his PPW and that was a few years ago.

In my opinion, you start mass arming the police on the UK mainland, you're going to have an awful lot of cowboys who would be better off in LA, Cali.

Sir Peter Fahy says Dale Cregan was in a house overnight and has either himself - or someone else has - made a call to police about a burglary. When the two officers arrived he killed the two officers.

Better have the gun and not need it than not having and needing it.Also,on the one hand lots of regulations,on the other it will turn into LA?

Most cops the world over will never use their firearm.Many,as you said,won't draw it. But in any cops time there can come the moment where he needs it... and should have it.

Would officers want to carry arms to begin with? Thats the question that needs debating because it doesn't matter what the government wants or the public. If a police man doesn't want to cary them what next?

The beeb put up a stat that in 2008 82% of the force where against it.
 
Coming from a family of police officers, and having many friends who are in the force themselves, I can't imagine what the families are going though. Makes me glad my parents are now both fully retired!

RIP.
