Underpeforming 7870

The 2500k ain't that good at stock - I would bump it to at least 4.4 Ghz which any chip will easily do with minimal voltage adjustment.

4.4 Ghz with volts on 1.36V will be stable I'd say. You can reduce it from there if you like.

Lol

Just running the standard clocks

turbo at 3.70 ghz i think it is mate

EDIT

2500K mate

Well your setup should be fine to run most things at high, or close to highest settings. Max payne 3 should run well so long as you disable AA.

Let us know if you have further problems.

My 2500k does 4.5ghz stock volts. 1.33-1.34 I think stock is.

Some games really do benefit from a CPU overclock as well.

Running my cpu at 3.7ghz or 4.6ghz i see very little difference in performance on max payne 3 and battlefield 3.

A few extra fps sure, but at stock neither of those games are cpu bottlenecked afaik.

Likely you're running graphic settings that are too high for your gpu.

Try running the HIGH setting preset in bf3 and let us know how you get on.

Ok mate so that worked

When i run 3dmark though, the fps is higher but it like its throttling back somehow

Once it throttles back the sppeds are better but its in the 50s for about 5 seconds then you see a massive drop all of a sudden

You need to increase the power limit meter in afterburner to +20 before attempting any sort of overclock.

Yeah I had to do this when attempting to clock my 6950. Don't enable overdrive in CCC as that and afterburner seem to conflict with each other from my experience.

Yes, spot on spenty. Don't touch overdrive, let afterburner do the work to rule out possible conflicts.

thanks mate :D

you can have it for all your help if you like :)
