Asda announce fuel cap

Could it not increase in the same manner?

I think we'd have bigger problems to worry about if the value of sterling sank to $1.2 : £1 and oil headed near $200 a barrel.

You can partially blame the Bank of England - ridiculous interest rates and constant QE has killed the value of our currency, helping us to import lots of fuel price inflation from overseas.

It's annoyed me for a while that we pay double tax on fuel. The government adds fuel duty and then VATs the whole thing so you pay VAT on Duty i.e tax on tax :(

Don't forget the TAX on your earnings that you had to use to pay for it. So it's more like 3x TAX.

QE doesn't seem to have worked but increase rates and the UK will grind to a halt as people reign in spending even more.

People have disposable income, they're just not spending because of the constant doom and gloom in the media. A short term fix of rebates will just hurt in the long run imo

Those nasty Tory Toffs, Labour would see us right.

It amuses me when people do this kind of thing. The poster he was replying to merely said that the government will shaft us in January with a double duty increase yet the guy I have quoted takes it as an attack on the Tories.... May the guy was just stating a fact i.e. it will be a double duty increase which would occur regardless of what party was in power

There is no double increase - just the deferred one.

Not saying it's a good idea or a bad idea but the Australian government tried the rebate thing in 2009.

Isn't Australia propped up by WA's mining? Much like we're propped up by the financial sector, I guess when you depend on something so much you do everything to keep it healthy.

The government should make it so that every petrol station has to charge the same amount imo,They are getting too greedy and im sure some of their pumps are rigged so your not getting all your moneys worth.
