sorry i know it might have been asked before but things change as do prices.

Samsung 830 256mb
or
Crucial RealSSD M4 256mb

forget about the price difference as i probably cant order till after end of month so will miss out on cash back. ** No price hinting **;)
Will be used on intel sata3 port, (think thats whats on my MB anyway!!)

So what would make the difference to you picking one ?
controller maybe ?
Warranty if it had to be RMA down the line ?
Speed ? though not much in it

Thanks for any input

Personally I went with the sam tri core controller and everything made my the same company

plus for some reason ive got a thing for sammy stuff at the moment

Get the cheapest at purchase time or Samsung if the difference is less than a few quid.

Samsung's software is worth the extra few quid.

Sorry huddy
was not meant with ill content,, I was simply trying to explain why I was finding it hard to choose.

Does the Samsung cashback thing run out at the end of the month?

Eep!

I was going to upgrade to a SSD RAID 0 setup but I was holding off until TRIM works on X79 platforms. Guess I'll have to buy a pair and keep them in a drawer, the cashback is too good to miss!

Doesn't include X79, that's "coming soon", but thanks.

Regards the OP, if price isn't a factor the Samsung is probably the better choice.

I was in a similar position a few days ago and in the end went for the Samsung 830, with cash back it's a very good deal. From an all round performance aspect IMHO there is little difference between the top players.

+1 for the Samsung

The 830 wins on performance (just) and price (with the cashback), and comes with better software and extras (depending on model/kit).

Crucial have better CS/RMA, but any problems are likely to be in the first few weeks, so go back to the retailer.

Overall, they're both very reliable but there's little between them performance-wise so go with price. At the same price, go for the Samsung.

Oh I didn't know trim didn't work on x79 in raid 0. Well I've not noticed if that matters lol still running super fast but it's only storage I'm using it for.

Wait for the Samsung 840 if you're buying next month.

If anything, the price of the 830 might drop further...

As long as he doesn't mind paying ~£200 for a 256GB 840.

After the end of this month the 256GB 830 would have to drop £20 just to be the same price it is now taking account of the cashback.

Samsung options:

1) 840 256GB looking to be about £200 based on the $ price + VAT
2) 830 256GB £130 now with the cashback
3) Hope the 830 256GB drops below £130 when the 840 is released

830 for £130. i saw the reviews this morning, and unless i missed something there's not 50% more performance in the 840! m4s aren't even that price right now, and since the 830s are technically better...

Well he's buying it after this month so the cashback is irrelevant. Plus the 840 with TLC is meant to be cheaper to manufacturer so might end up at a good price.

He's probably buying after the end of the month so the cashback isn't necessarily irrelevant to the OP.

My summation of the situation regarding Samsung 256GB SSDs is also relevant to other people reading this thread who may be making a similar decision.

If the price quoted in the review is correct then the it's going to be ~£200 for the 256GB 840.

By the time it lands in the UK it might be more, it might be less.
