HTC to stop shipping phones with power adapters.

This is a great move, with the standard of data pin shorting going accross all the big providers this was just a matter of time and I'm glad they have done it.

It's nothing like laces as they are bespoke to the product (length, colour) - all USB micro chargers are the same. This is the most bizarre reason I've ever seen for someone avoiding a specific manufacturer, you want them to be less green and more wasteful?

All it's doing for me is adding extra cost for no gain. It would just mean I have to buy a charger every time I buy a new phone. And considering I've bought and then sold on 11 phones in 18 months, it's an added expense I simply am not willing to pay. And let's face it, they aren't doing this to be green, they're doing this to save costs, as we all know the cost of the handset won't go down.

I find it rather annoying because I also always sell on phones with the charger. So I'd have to go and buy one seperately, which is rather frustrating. Doubtless we will not see any consumer-facing benefits of this shift.

Coming soon - HTC to stop shipping mobile phones with mobile phones.

That's fine because I've used phones for a while and can just imagine what its like to use one :p

This is a bad move imo, they are assuming that people will have spares. It could be an optional extra but they should knock the price off the overall handset price. What are the chances of that happening though?

Cas, it's a one time 3/4 pound charge for life if you really don't have any.

Last time I bought a cheap charger it destroyed my battery, so I only use the official ones. My biggest issue is them just adding extra costs on to the phones, for nothing for the consumer. I'm sure I'll cope with just buying from the plethora of other manufacturers.

I always assumed most people were like me and just charged from USB output anyway? Literally all you need for any modern phone (sans iPhone) is a usb to micro-usb cable and the pc you're all evidently sitting at.

I'm all for this - I have a number of USB chargers (and a load of old nokia specific ones) that charge phones no problem.

I can't see the price coming down by very much anyways even if they did pass on the saving to the consumer - just like buying one online it most likely doesn't cost them more than a couple of quid to include them with a new phone!

What I posted of Facebook covers this I reckon:

I don't think I've ever used the plug that came with my HTC, I just plug it into the PC, Laptop, an Xbox, PS3, the car, back of my TV etc.

Should reduce the packaging size a fair amount which will reduce packaging and shipping costs. Seems like a good move to me.

it's a lot slower - 2.5W vs 5W

I rarely ever use the wall plug as well.

I remember hearing something like this as an EU imitative being rolled out for all phone makers or at least demanding they they all use the same design of charger to cut down on the packaging and plastics used.

Misleading title is misleading. HTC are not flat out stopping shipping chargers with their phones. It's ONE phone from HTC that's being sold via O2 - clearly testing the water.

I use my galaxy tab one for everything now anyway, (its 2A). Or just plug my phone into my sky box or amp or pc or tv, well you get the idea.
