No I'm not sure hence why I started what I said with "I'm no lawyer" (which you've cut from the quote).
But unless you expect the authorities to believe that they only fell in love the minute he left the school and nothing had happened before (in which case why would he be leaving) then clearly something must have happened between them whilst he was teacher.
In this specific case, given there was an ongoing investigation on the man, him leaving teaching to be with her would prove that investigation right so I don't think it would act as a 'get out of jail free' card as some are suggesting.

It's not an myth, in-fact the government wanted to ban it, not sure if they got their wish or not.
Sounds good to me.
Anyway, personally I think it's ok for a 15 and someone older to get together, any younger then that's risky. lol
Other then that and the world we live in, I think this Maths teacher is an idiot, he has ruined his life, he will lose his job, his friends and and did someone say he has a wife? That be an ex-wife now.
Should had waited a few years till she turned 18... that's if they really do love each other.

For instance, in this country sex with someone under 16 is illegal, but in Japan - a well developed society like our own - the map would suggest there are areas where sex is legal even with a 13 year old. Yes we all respond with "noooo thats just plain wrong!".
I wonder, though, looking at that map whether people in Japan have the same response as us about their own age of consent? Just because it is legal it does not make it right? Or I wonder if 13 year olds having sex is normal to them? I wonder what the age difference is between consent and the legal age of adulthood? (I admit I don't know a lot about Japan!)
Anyway, these were a few of my ponderings whilst reading through this thread earlier.

As the map indicates whilst the Japanese constitution may give an age of consent as being 13 this is normally overridden at the prefecture level to be raised to around 18. In fact now their Child Welfare law seems to indicate (I'm not a lawyer so this is from a quick Google) that inducing a minor who is less than 18 to engage in sexual activities is likely to be prosecuted under said law. So while the official age of consent may be younger in practice it's going to be 18. If I remember correctly their legal adulthood age is 20.
Having a little sister and had to put up with her friends when I was growing up I struggle to understand why someone would want to voluntarily try it on with girls under 18 ...
... mid-20s office ladies are more to my taste

Correct, that map is a little misleading. The lowest technical age someone can have sex and the minimum age that a 30 year old man (for example) with isn't always the same.
A lot of these low age limits are there to protect kids from being prosecuted for experimenting, they're not there as an invite for adult males to go over and sleep with a 12 year old.

But we do not yet know what consequences are. Losing his job and not being able to teach seem to be pretty fair as he has proven he is not suitable to be in a position of trust over young adults. Anything more we would have to wait until/if he is caught.
As for the attracted/interested debate, in the context of the sentence I used them in they meant the same thing. Which I then explained a little later.

Hate to point out the slightly sick fact but if he'd waited a year, the police couldnt do anything about it ? I think he'd still lose his job, strange how these guys cant wait 1 year

So what if a male of 16 years of age has sex with a female of a 15 years of age with only a month apart?
If you read the CPS charging guidelines that were posted earlier you would know that nothing would happen as long as it was consensual.....

Not true. The Police could have done something about it as the law still applies to him as he is both over 18 and in a position of Trust.
Christ on a bike, why are people still posting the same spiel about "if he waited till she was 16 then he would have been fine" or "what a plonker for not waiting a bit till she was 16" even after the many, many, many posts about her being under 18 and him in a position of trust.
If person A holds a position of trust over person B then person B MUST be 18+ years of age for person A to be in a relationship with them else it is illegal.
Does no one even read a few posts before the spew their own thoughts forward?

So how can a 15 year old consent to sex with a 16-18 year old, but not to a 20-30 year old (or insert whatever age differences you find are appropriate).
