Nevertheless, this guy will be charged with child abduction as well as sexual contact with a minor. It wouldn't surprise me if his sentence was longer. The heavy media attention will also "demand" a lack of leniency in sentencing. Something which "should not" happen, but invariably does.
Yes a lot of people would still be calling him a "pedo" even then.
There are plenty of people who would condemn as "morally wrong" a 30 year old having relations with a 20 year old, let alone a 16 year old!
In fact I bet if you did a poll on this very forum asking if "30 with 20 was wrong" you'd get about a 50/50 split.
Where am I suggesting it's ok to run off with a 15 year old?
What I am suggesting is (as we have already seen in the media) he is going be to strung up even if he had perfectly noble (if misguided) intentions and both truly did love each other (or at least thought they did, like most relationships).
What I despise is the hatred and monsterifying* people seem to insist on forcing on to so many situations like this. How about keep your nose out and have a proper discussion with both of them. I'm expecting that not to happen though and the social workers and parents blaming it all on him and trying to persuade her that is the case. It takes two to tango, unfortunately parents would would insist that would NEVER happen to their child!!! They are always sweet and innocent...

My 33 year old mate has a 21 year old girlfriend. It has never bothered us at all. He met her in Malaysia when he was working there and she is very mature for her age. I am pretty sure if asked honestly if we are a little jealous, we would say yes. I think a lot of men would.

Why can't she she is still at an age to make a decision even if it was right or wrong. It's up to their own regardless. They might have only just ran away and not had sex.

The funny thing is, in this case girls her age these days can seem a lot older then they are act a lot oder then they are right.
Even though he would know being her teacher it is entirely possible she had a sort of influence on his decision maybe she even was selfish enough to of suggested the idea knowing it would ruin his life \o/
