Just a thought - being that this is effectively a clone of a clone, there could be a lot of garbage on the drive - any way to force TRIM to run and clean it up?
Try the option Turn off Windows write-cache buffer flushing. That's on the Policies page for the device properties in Device Manager.
(previously had a 120Gb Corsair Force 3 in there)Unfortunately it was already off - would have been a nice easy fix(previously had a 120Gb Corsair Force 3 in there)
As one last throw of the dice I'm going to swap the Corsair back in and see what speeds it gives - if they are decent then I'll go through the pain of the fresh install.
Is there a sticky on formatting/aligning new SSDs - can't find much either here or on Crucial's site.
if using win7 it will align it for you,but to make sure select 4096mb from where it says auto when you format it,normal format should be ok
you can do a secure erase if you want with parted magic and a usb stick
Hi again,
I'd love to sort this issue out as it could have been me in your position. Right now if I was to ask you to do a few things to resolve this would be:
1. Ensure AHCI is on ( Im sure you did this)
2. Remove all other drives (just unplug) you will need to leave cd/dvd in for Win install!
3. Do full install of Win7 and opt to format the drive during the procedure
4. Once there - don't update windows or anything except install Internet Security of your choice update it and add any drivers you may need.
5. Then run the bench tests again
I tried cloning a couple of times - used Clonezilla in the end as it was the only one that worked.
I might give a fresh install a go as I still have the Corsair (it's in now!) so I have a redundant install which is nice!
I spoke to Crucial direct and they were very nice - even took the time to check the thread to save me repeating myself! They have suggested an RMA so I have a sneaking suspicion that there is a defect with the drive.
