My good (but horribly sad) deed for the day

Yes it's me!

The guy who looks after his pets responsibly instead of letting them out into the wild to be Run over, eat poisonous greens, be at the mercy of other humans etc etc...

I suggest you keep goldfish then, not a predatory animal. Yes animals get used to their conditions, but so do animals in zoo and kids in an Austrian basement.

Being 'responsible' would imply that you have created the best enviorment for an animal, not just keeping them safe.

Yes I have created the best environment from the space I have available. The Tica and The Gccf have a few guidelines on the space needed for cat to be fine living indoors.

I regularly take mine out on walks and that gives them the extra excercise they need.

Your suggestion of a goldfish is stupid. These are animals that have been domesticated for thousands of years and they no longer have the need to roam freely as long as you don't live in a shoebox apartment.

I don't understand cat owners. They let their cats out to roam the streets 24/7 and wee and poo in everybody elses garden yet they are classed as a 'family' pet.

I'm sure he appreciates what you did but as others have said, putting a card through his door is a bit OTT. I know you mean well but you've informed him. Leave it at that.

You might as well talk to the wall mate.

Here in GD, we don't like to let a few little facts get in the way of our pre-conceptions ;)

I've have both, pedigree and moggy, I leave the window open and the moggys disappear into the fields and the pedigree sits in a flowerpot and watches them. I'm providing a choice. The dead cat was obviously a free roaming cat so your suggestion it should have been kept indoors for its own safety is either cruel or stupid.
I wouldn't have paint left on my doors if I tried to keep mine inside all day.

After the condolence card you should start taking pictures of him and his family through the window and sending him weekly collages of the pictures only all the pictures of his girlfriend you should burn out the face with a cigarette. Sign each collage 'I'll be your kitty cat :3' in your own semen (I'm going to assume your semen has blood in it from the genital flagellation that weirdos tend to subject themselves to). Post back once this is done and I'll advise further.

You'd be surprised to know that a lot of cats aren't house-cats, because, they don't want to be. You obviously dont understand much about cats or people if youre coming out with toss like that.

so people should let their dogs hunt in packs?

Would be entertaining, but probably have quite the negative impact on the cat population...and make walking home at night slightly more unsafe.

Like for hunting? can't say I object, although I've always been against the domestic keeping of protection/hunting breed dogs.
People don't let them out because like ferrets and snakes they are a pain to get back in, besides dogs like to follow their owners around all day, cats don't.

Because they haven't been raised correctly. Over 90% of common breeds aren't raised properly anymore and without the proper environment and care they don't bond well with humans. This is mainly because there's no money in common pedigree breeds anymore.

A cat that's been raised correctly and released to it's new owners at the correct time and then handled and interacted with enough will become more loyal and close to a human than any dog.
