gtx670 SLI for 1080p?

It might be game dependant but even something like BF3, which had a clear measurable FPS advantage in SLI, just did not feel substantially better to compared to the cost.
The link of my sig still shows the SLI setup but a single 670 is plenty for 99% of the time at 1080 with 120Hz, even in games suited to 3D like Trine or Dirt.

Can you really not see the benefit of 120hz over 60hz in BF3? Wow it's like night and day to me. No way I could go back to 60hz/screen tearing fest.

I was talking about Single card vs SLI feel when using 120Hz.
I completely agree that 120Hz is far superior, I could never go back to 60Hz.

With that many cards would you not consider a 120hz monitor? Seems a waste at 60hz.

I had a Samsung 223RZ I think it was called when 120Hz were the "hot" stuff. But the colours were wrong and washed compared to the Samsung 245B it should have replaced. I tried for 1 week to get the screen to fairly match up the colours printed and used when working with photoshop, but they were too far off. The screen was nice in games, but colours were too washy for my photoshop use. So I returned the screen and got my current one.
If I want 120Hz or more I might as well pick up my old 21" CRT and game on that.
Currently I'm more interested in getting a 27" TFT with IPS panel and 2560x1440.

I've had no performance issues with a 670 wf on a 1080p 120hz monitor. On max settings i don't recall dropping below 90 fps and that was on BF3. 120hz imho is essential for FPS gaming to get the most out of your system.

+1

Although I find at Ultra settings does dip the fps below the 90s. I tend to run everything at high and get a good 100fps average on all maps in all situations.

RE 120Hz, I play Tribes Ascend (very fast FPS) and 90 FPS feels like 30 for me when it drops. I have turned down some settings to get 120FPS constant however now considering 2 X 680 to maintain 120 constant.

RE OP, 120Hz is really worth it for FPS over high res IPS. I've had 26" 60Hz Iiyama, Dell 3007 and now 27" 120Hz monitor and it's fantastic. Really has improved my game.

I have 1440p and 670SLI

I had a 1080p 120hz monitor and saw no benefit over a 60hz 1080p monitor so decided to switch

for 1440p, you can just about get away with a single 670 in many titles but in a few of the more demanding titles you will need 670 SLI to run them at near max settings (e.g. BF3 on ultra etc.)

Im glad you posted this.

I use 1600p and was thinking this screen tearing was something I was missing through bad eyesight or something.

Would agree with the above (I prefer 120Hz to 2560*1600) however if you go 2560*1600 I agree you want 670SLI as it's no fun having a big screen with reduced eyecandy.

If your PC is just for gaming however I would really challenge hi resolution screen in relation to 120Hz.

You could go for a catleap (1440p at 120Hz +) however the technology is not proven.
