I'm after some more internal sata drives for my home server, 2-3TB, and just after some recommendations on what are the best disks around at the moment.

Well, there's only two choices. Seagate and WD...

Samsung sold it's hard disk division to Seagate and WD bought Hitachi's hard disk division.
Toshiba doesn't make large drives as far as I know, and besides, I wouldn't recommend Toshiba in general due to their shafting of their customers in other domains.

So, given that there's only 2 options.. I would go for whatever is the cheapest, since, for a home server (and I assume this is going for a home file server rather than like a home computing farm...), the speed will be largely irrelevant.

3TB - WD30EZRX
2TB - WD20EZRX

These are Western Digital Green drives using 1TB platters I believe.. I don't think the 'Red' are worth the premium..

Indeed they're for a home server that has music and films on, not a large scale operation by any means :).

I'll grab the WD30EZRX at present as its on TWO.

Either WD Green or Red (if you can get them) would be my choice. The Reds come with 3 year warranty which makes them attractive to me.

I seem to of had a bad patch just lately with two WD Green failures in my server at almost 3 years old.

WD provides replacement drives upfront, failed drive goes back in the box the new replacement arrived in. Totally hassle free warranty service IMO. The last failure was 2TB and WD sent me a 3TB replacement. :D

They are designed for a different use case. Red's are for RAID, there's some error correction and power management stuff in them.
