Police search for missing 5 year old in Wales

Weirdly during my lecture yesterday afternoon the lecturer said how if "a child from the country side goes missing, then it's all over the news within seconds and it's the big headline story for months" ... and then a few hours later this pops up on the news.

*rings police*

We have a mini play park by our house about 15 seconds away, my 9 and 6 year old are not allowed near it without us, they stay in the house with us where we can see them, it shocks me that such crappy parents are allowed to exist, I cannot understand how parents thinking its ok to let small kids wonder around and walk to school is acceptable.

And to make it worse she's outside playing at 19:30 in the evening and she's 5 what the hell my kids go up to bed at 7pm to watch a little tv before bed!

Approximately 12 people will be killed in road accidents today, yet here we go again with for weeks with another missing kid

Awful news, but seriously why would a parent(s) let their children out at 7:30pm at night (it is getting quite dark at this time now) out alone, regardless of "we live in a small town" etc, times are very different today and you cannot let a child play out on there own.

Well i hope she is found safe and well. And then removed from her parents for their neglect. My neice is 7 and nephew is 4 and i would batter my sister if she let them go off and play without supervision, let alone at 7.30 in the evening. I thought that people were not this stupid but obviously i was wrong. Years ago i used to work as an Ice Cream Man and i would see it all the time. Very young children (4/5/6) wandering about housing estates without supervision and on one occasion seen a little girl hit by a car. Bad, bad parenting, they dont deserve to have children.

Why isn't there some sort of law that holds parents in this type of cases to account. Yes the person that took the child should be found and dealt with to the highest level of the law (or pushed in front of a steam roller with broken legs). But parents that don't look after children make me sick. You have children you look after them otherwise don't have them the same way if you choose to have pets you have to look after them.

Just reminds me of how the McCann's left their children on there own in a different country and everyone feels bad for them. Yes they paid a horrible price but it could have been avoided by looking after thier children instead of going out for a meal on the **** with friends. Horrible horrible horrible ...

rich people always seem to get away with more. i still would charge the mccans. sure, they have suffered but nowhere near as much as their daughter and we still dont know they are innocent anyway.

i hope they find this little girl. what were the parents thinking?

having said that, when i was young (I'm 37) we always played outside. are there more paedos now? or do we just hear about it more?

Prolly dead

In these cases I don't think the media helps, but probably already to late. In all honesty probably betterfor her to vbe dead, mind boggles at what that poor child might go through, sick

Its times like these where I question that it should be a human right to have children. 730? 5? Not good

Its got to be said, letting a 5 year old play out in the street that late and unsupervised is just terrible parenting regardless of how you cut it.

Its a shame though and I hope she is found safe soon.

I used to play outside all the time at 5 years of age with other kids and there were no parents about. Granted 19:30 at night is a bit late for this age so I am a bit concerned about this aspect.

I guess people are just a bit more paranoid these days. Case in point - if a kid fell and hurt themselves, a passing adult would have made sure they were ok whereas now if it happened, anyone seeing this would think the adult was a weirdo OR the adult would just walk past for fear of being branded a weirdo.

Child abductions figures have actually fallen over the past 6 or so years compared to the early 00's, and I'm sure the stats would probably show that there's no significant difference between now and the last 20, 30, 40 etc years. The majority seem to be estranged parents or children being taken back 'home' by parents / relations not by weirdos off the street.

As a parent of a soon to be 5 year old this is absolutely gut wrenching, although I'd never let my little one go out on her own I know I did when I was not much older and times haven't changed that much. Also this is a small village community where everyone knows everyone so people do tend to feel there kids are safer in these areas.

My main reason for not letting my own little en out in our street would be traffic and other kids!
