Why don't we pump more money into space exploration?

I mean seriously, as a global race, why do we not put all available resources into exploring space?

We are on this tiny ball suspended in nothing, surrounded by trillions and trillions of other planets and stars, I simply cant see why we dont spend more money and resources into exploring further.

The more I think about space the more tripped out I get, its fascinating. i just wish all of human kind shared the same thoughts.

What do you mean "all available resources"? Like literally forget all other priorities and go into space? what is the desired outcome? Sounds pretty stupid and short sighted.

Because the average person has absolutely no interest in space and therefore space exploration will be of no benefit to them whatsoever.

It costs a lot of money for start. To get out of our solar system would take years. And for what? Potentially finding something? Not worth it. At least not yet.

I am looking forward to the next manned space flight now that we have better recording and broadcasting technologies it will be more difficult to fake.

I think nasa have the next manned space flight to go above 400miles in 2020 when they want to land on an asteroid. i think.

See this is what I don't understand.

Why do people have no interest? How close minded have you got to be...

We are so keen to traverse our own planet and explore as much of that as we can, but we have a vast expense surrounding us which we haven't even scratched the surface of.

Joe public and Joanne public only care about updating their facebook to tell you how hard their life is.

INDIVIDUALISM IS EVERYWHERE!!!!

You missed out the x-factor & getting outraged by exaggerated news articles (in between facebook complaining).

Because we're broke.

Well the OP did say as a global race, in which case, we're not broke, we just have the wrong priorities.

To put it into context, NASA's 2012 budget is $17 Billion, the US Dept Of Defense budget 2012 is $707 Billion, like i said, priorities are all wrong.

This, exactly.

To be honest, if the population did have a greater interest in things of such a scale our world would be pretty different.

The ruling classes feed off apathy/distraction - having a population of scientifically interested switched on individuals with a good mind isn't exactly at the forefront of any leaders plans.

Until space makes us money or will help us potentially win a war nobody will care or seriously invest in it. Like almost everything in this world its driven by money.

We probably don't have enough scientists/engineers to spend that much money on it.
We don't have enough engineers at the moment let alone if you tried to start a massive international project.
