Only person excited for Windows 8?

Oh another cool thing is when in metro just start typing what you want....

rem for example brings up the remote desktop tile

Pin this to metro and its no different than clicking remote desktop on your win 7 desktop

you can do that in windows 7 as well, it isn't really any different in that respect.

People seem to be hung up about the start menu....Thats all

From what I can see the start menu is best off dead from my short experience running windows 8 enterprise everything is faster and this is from an upgrade not fresh install.

Along with storage spaces...parity etc... windows 8 is the dogs danglies....:p

I think you must be the only person excited for Windows 8.

I think loads of people are excited about it though. :p

I think it's great, I didn't like it at first and got a bit butthurt about how it's changed. I didn't like the change and that was before I even gave it a proper chance.

Now that I've given it a proper chance I think it's great and I prefer the new way they've got the start menu working. It's quicker for me than the old start menu ever was. I think everything is a nice improvement over Windows 7 except for transparency, I don't like how they've removed that, but the "fix" for that should be ready soon (or even now I haven't checked in a while).

Anyone who is stuck in the past and in love with their start menu is a noob.:D

I too was a tad confused by the newness of it....But once you realise its far better both in speed and usage windows 7 is a long distant memory :p

I can't help but feel metro is counter intuitive on a desktop, i mean it's there to replace the start menu......ok, but i can 100% undeniably state that i did not need my start menu to be full screen. It's not easier, it's no more difficult, it's just a waste of space. If anything I'm always trying to make my start menu smaller by deleting anything i'll never need to be in there, having it take up the whole screen in the fashion windows 8 does it drives me mad.

That's not to say i won't adapt, I'm using it on my laptop now and while i find it takes me more time to get to things i want (windows 8 really does a touch pad no favours at all) it's not exactly major issue, just a nuisance.

Microsoft should have just gone down the route of giving you the option to switch between start menu and metro depending on device. For starters I assume I'm going to be trapped in to windows 7 for the next decade at work (a school!) because the users brains will simply explode if i try and replace their start menus with something like metro, most of them still give me a confused look when i tell them to go to "start" what are they going to say if i tell them to click on "the zero pixel" or "very bottom left"

I'm rambling now because I'm procrastinating rather than going to bed.....but i think i made my point :p

I'm more annoyed Windows 8 doesn't have a 30 day activation period like previous Windows versions, otherwise I would have grabbed it from somewhere now, then activate it when I officially buy it...

Kinda sucks when you have a new system to make now, then in 3 weeks end up doing another full install.... grrr :(

They changed that in favour of a fully working 90 day trial version you can get.

You have to do a fresh re-install when it runs out though, but it's not that bad.

Damn I always do that, put of instead of have, thanks for reminding me lol. :)

H'mm, never tried it, I wonder if its much different to RTM, guess it's got a few more bugs, does it receive updates?

How can you be a noob by using an old feature? Perhaps you mean an old? Perhaps for enjoying something new then you are the noob?

I don't like having a start menu on my desktop which is my beef with Windows 8. With Windows 7 my start menu is organised in a nice way. I can also type cmd for example and the window pops up on my desktop rather than flicking to another screen to run it.

Usage I don't think it is better - you have to think of giving this to a business, for example, could they use this from the get go without any training? The short answer is no - if I put this on the desktop in front of one of the users they wouldn't know where to begin.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Metro should be like Media Center and have been optional with a 'boot to this' option.

Products such as Classic Start Menu would not be as popular as they are if people didn't think there was a need.

I will probably upgrade to it after I've read what people think after release or SP1 comes out. Some of it's features look very good though.

But I click on a cmd tile in metro and I'm away:o

Looking forward to it. Great way forward for MS.
Same platform on three pretty different platforms (4 if you have Xbox) only one learning curve, plays nicely with each other. The features win8 offers.
Apple is to restrictive, android to fragmented. I won't to pick up a device and for it to work and do what I need. Android you have to put different roms on, hardware is to fragmented to have one app work on all devices. Apple is to controlling. mS on the other hand has it pretty much spot on. I will find annoyances, allready found a few. But far less than either of the others.

Looking forwards to a win8 tablet, and I'm considering an upgrade for my desktop, but I think I'll wait for drivers/compatibility to mature first.

These both pretty much sum up Windows 8 for me. A mess. If I want a desktop OS I have Windows 7. If I want a tablet OS I have Android or iOS.
