Men with shaved heads appear more masculine

Case closed ;-)

A recent study involving three separate experiments has shown that men who shear the hair off their heads are perceived as being more dominant, taller, and even stronger. But the increased perception of masculinity comes at a price: namely, diminished attractiveness.

I generally associate a shaved head with thugs & prison inmates so I'm not surprised really. :p

I shave my head myself and occasionally go to hair dresses to get the back and sides cleaned up. But as i am not that concerned what other people think in general i let it grow back quite long before i shave it again sometimes. Well about 2cm compared with the 5mm shaved.

But i do notice that after shaving my head i get more looks from girls, especially the shallow ones in essex that are very concerned with superficial appearance.

I agree, being a 6 foot 3 20 + stone guy, if I had long hair people wouldn't bat an eyelid and they didn't when I had long hair. Since I've been shaving it for years people are defo more intimidated by me so I guess maybe because I appear more masculine?

I use hair clippers on my hair once a fortnight, tried shaving it with a razor but I just end up looking like I have cancer :(

Thats what I can look forward to, looking like George from Seinfeld or looking like a cancer victim.

I am more like Patrick Stewart if I don't shave. I try and go with the Walter White attitude when I do (except for the illegal activity bit :p).

I went with the Kojak look for about a year and a half (daily Mach 3). People definitely do treat you differently and a little more cautionary respect was generally noticeable..
I remember during a commute, one guy just came out with "I wouldn't get in a fight with you mate". I was like "It's just a haircut dude", but then I am 6'4" so maybe that had something to do with it lol.
Fortunately, my baldness was voluntary ;)

As for ze ladeez... Well, I'm a handsome devil anyway haha, now I've let my hair grow back it's still all good in that dept.

It all depends on whether you can pull off the look.

It's because society associates that look with criminals and other groups linked to violence, eg bouncers, military forces, neo-nazis etc.

The study is using their own definition of masculinity anyway and has questionable methodology. So it's pretty flawed.

For an example of what I was saying, look at Edward Norton, normally looks like a right pansy who bakes cookies for his granny, shave his head, add a goatee and a swastika or two and you have a totalnutjob who scares the panties off his old granny while nicking her cookies.

This is getting too close to a euphemism for my liking tbh..
