Alienware m18x or m17x r4?

It's good to see more of the R4's with 680's and the 3D screens. That would be a brilliant machine to have. Wonder if you'd get the 3D glasses with a system with 3D screen.....anybody know?

I'm off work tomorrow so I'll be setting my alarm for 2:15 and finally hope I can nab something, esp with a 7970 or 680.

Ahhhhh!! Was trying to be clever on Chrome by filtering to R4's only. For some reason it showed, then disappeared. When I managed to get the only R4 up on screen again and trying to add to basket it had been taken already. I've been F5'ing ever since in the unlikely event it was only basketed but seems the person bought it. Managed to C&P the specs (worth noting it's i7-3720 and 680 GPU).

Btw, what's the consensus of the 680 vs the 7970?

Snap, lol. I think the consensus is that the 680 is a bit quicker but is a lot more cash, however this one didn't look too much more that the 7970 one that was on yesterday. Not sure if there are throttling/heat issues with either card like the old range?

Just been tinkering with overclocking the 7970m and there seems to be a lot of room. Temperatures still seem great - have yet to go past 75c on full stress.

What speeds/clocks have people on here managed to get?

Can anyone see anything wrong with it? I missed it the first time it came up but it came back as someone obviously decided against it. I'm now wondering why! Maybe the colour?

Oh dear, was there something wrong with it or did you just want the 680M model? I did order it in the end but I could always cancel.

Ugh, must admit I haven't done much reading up on these new models but after a quick google that doesn't look good. Does it just affect some games or everything?

From what I read its luck of the draw if you actually get a good set of cards that work well. Plus there's the driver issues. You should look at the NBR forum for the m18 lots if useful information over there. But for 1300 squid i'd be over the moon with it :)

Thanks for that, I'll have a look over there. Did you buy yours new or from the Outlet, and do you know what the service tag was? Would be funny if it was the same one!

I bought an XPS 17 on the same order, but then saw that there were some Inspiron 17R SE's on the Outlet which I haven't seen before so I ended up ordering one of those too to compare. Will have a fun time deciding which to keep!

I bought it new, ive looked over my receipt and no theres no service tag number on there, but the one you have bought is exactly the same as the one i returned even down to the "plasma purple" lighting. If it is the one i sent back, it is brand new ;) Good luck! :)

I just bought a M17x R4 With a i7-3740QM, a 680M and 8gb ram

I want to upgrade the memory and add a SSD myself, Dell charge a stupid amount, I have the SSD but what memory should I buy, i was looking at 2 x Corsair Vengance 1600 8gb 1.5v is this the right stuff?

Cheers
