Fined for chucking a apple into a hedge

What a dumb law! Seriously...man. Ok cans, plastic bottles, 50 apple-cores..ok fair enough.

But one random core. And that "officer" who fined this guy has never ever thrown somethin outta his car right? Never ever right :D

I have never, ever thrown anything out of my car while on the road. Is that unusual or something?

Apple core litter fine angers County Down driver

A teacher has said he is angry about being fined £150 for throwing an apple core out of his car into a hedge.

Cyril Falls, 53, who is a teacher at Bangor Academy, County Down, said he thought it was OK to throw the apple core because it is biodegradable.

The incident happened in Saintfield, County Down, earlier this year.

A Down District Council enforcement officer who was in the car behind him as they were stopped at a junction took down his registration number.

Ok then...So its cool to lob feces on peoples property too then? Hell, you're doing them a favour, why not just walk onto their property and take a huge dump smack bang in the middle of their lawn.

No of course not, I'll agree that the person should have been fined for throwing the thing onto someone elses property, I missed that point.

Don't forget though it was only the core that was thrown into the hedge. It will be gone a lot quicker than a full apple.

Im not sure it would though. Apple flesh is eaten by a lot of stuff, apple cores are eaten by fewer things i believe.

It sounds like an experiment waiting to happen tho.

I remember once I ate some apples, and when it got to the middle I simply took out the seeds and ate the core. Why am I not meant to do that?

The issue really is the skin on them from what I know. It's often waxed, covered in chemicals still and can have lingering doses of radiation. Once it's gone I imagine the rest would go quite quickly

Try the experiment at home! Peel one and not another, stick em in roughly the same place and see which goes first

Will do.
Sounds like an interesting little experiment.
Ive got apples coming out of the ears so might as well put them to use.

You might have missed it because that isn't apparently the case here if Transam is correct, as per the below quote.

I live where he lives, and know of the bloke - it was extensively covered in the local rag, and yes, it was a hedgerow beside a field. Not some other bloke's immaculately cut front hedge.

In the eyes of the law then yes, you take possession of that item when you take it. If it happens naturally then of course theres no issue.

Which is why interpretation of the law is actually such a grey area, until you get the occasional jobsworth.

Just as long as it's not done in an almost sterile environment like that video.

In my time we've had a lot of Apple trees, including an orchard and apples would not still be visible after that long in most situations.
