I've Gigabyte Z77 D3H motherboard and i5 3570K CPU, I want to overclock the chip to 4.5GHz, but I don't know where to start, here's my BIOS settings on default,

I've went to 4.2GHz using stock voltage and stressed test using Prime95, temps keep moving from around 50-60C

I want to reach to 4.5GHz, what settings should I change?

Temps look great.

Give 4.3-4.4 a try. If prime fails up the vcore a little. (only a little, baby steps.)

What is your LLC? Level 6 seems the best for OCing to that level.

Same motherboard and cpu as me, similar overclock but you are getting much better temps. What cooler are you using, and what setting in the bios?

:) well done!

Should I set VCore to Auto or Manual?

Can't seem to find LLC in BIOS

I'm using Alpenföhn Matterhorn CPU cooler with two Corsair fans like this one,

Settings in BIOS is default

The stressed test is done using VCore Auto

4.3GHz,

4.4GHz,

Although your temps are not bad at 4.4, the voltage is what I would consider too high! (I am a bit of a novice so am not sure how you would reduce the voltage whilst still keeping speed step (voltage changing with multiplier)).

LLC settings are under "3d power settings" / "3d voltage settings", under the voltage option. :)

edit: nice set up with the cooler, may have to try two fans with mine. Is that the cm690 case, looked similar to mine from what I can see?

Vcore on Auto will give you higher voltage. Manual is your best bet.

I think 1.25-1.3v should be about right to get you to 4.5, Lower may suffice. silicon lottery.

Nice set-up by the way. Im getting a set of those fans for my H50. :)

LLC, look at your second screenshot (first post). "Vcore Load Line Calibration" :)

I'll set the VCore to Manual and leave it at 1.210V and try 4.3GHz, if it fails, what do I up it to?

I leave other settings as default?

Is it SP120?

What do I set the VCore Load Line Calibration to?

Also for the RAM, I'm using Profile1 which gives 1600MHz, should I use that or disable it and enter 16 manually?

If it fails raise the vcore by 0.010 until it passes. Like I say 1.25 should be okay.

It is the sp120s im excited.

Set the LLC to level 6 for now.

I think the ram is fine at that.

The LLC controls how the voltage changes under load situations. This is why the voltage shown on cpu-z may be different to what you set in the bios.

from what I have read and tested, level 6 is the most stable, ensure the voltaage doesn't exceed what you set, by much. Its a good place to start.

Should I use Turbo or Extreme for LLC?

Found this thread mate: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=230363

A good 3/4's of the way down is this bit:

Overclocking,

Using a i5 3570K as mentioned, getting to 4Ghz was easy, all I had to do was set the CPU ratio to 40X, disable Turboboost (or leave the CPU ratio alone and set all four Turbo ratios to 45X if you want the power saving feature) and save+exit the BIOS.

Next up was 4.5Ghz, using these settings

CPU ratio of 45X
Turboboost disabled
LLC set to Turbo
Vcore set at 1.325v

4.6Ghz with:

CPU ratio of 46X
Turbo disabled
LLC set to Extreme
Vcore set at 1.35v

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll use Turbo for LLC, also the settings I've at the moment, is it power saving mode? As I don't want the CPU at full load when it's idle

Is LLC necessary if I only aiming for 4.5GHz? Because someone told me that using LLC is needed if I'm going over 4.5GHz, and it's much better to find a nice stable offset voltage than using LLC to fill the gap

So I'm confused now

I used 1.210V and Turbo LLC for 4.3GHz,

I tried 1.210V and Turbo LLC for 4.4GHz but Core 2 stopped working so I upped it to 1.215V and I get BSOD, so I tried 1.220V and Core 2 stopped working again, I'll give 1.225V a try on 4.4GHz tomorrow
