p35 or p45 motherboard

Im pretty sure ddr3 wasnt around at the time of p35 so that is probably out of the question. It has been a while but iirc there were a couple of higher end p45 boards that took ddr3. X48 boards also take ddr3 if you are interested in those?

i made the mistake og get a g41 chipset and been advised to get p35 or p45 so i can reuse my q8400 and 4gb kingston hyper x's and be able to overclock a lot better

To be honest for ddr3 you are looking at either x48 or p45 in socket 775 boards. Both (for the most part) overclock very well so you should be happy with either chipset.

You don't want a P35 over a P45 although I don't think you can get a P35 that takes DDR3, By the by the P45 is a much better clocker, Still run one myself with a Q6600 4Gb of ram & a 4890.

i need to know what boards support q8400, ddr3?

all x48 and p45 boards will support the q8400. I think just about all X48 boards support DDR3 too. It will be listed if a board is ddr2 or ddr3 when you buy it. So as long as it is either an x48 or p45 and is listed as ddr3 compatible you will be fine.

I have a GA P35C DS3R that supports all C2D and C2Q CPUs(with latest Bios) and it takes DDR3(2 slots).
Asus has P5kC as well

i need to know makes and model so i can try find one these boards

I will see if I can fish a few out. If you are looking on auction sites then just type in x48 motherboard or p45 motherboard and see what comes up. Most will have their specs listed :)

im trying to find 1 but seems its impossible unless i order from other contrys :(

You will be better off swapping (ie selling and re-buying) the memory and getting the right type for socket 775.

There are none on ebay for sale as pretty much no one bought them. IIRC the p45 ones all had 2 lanes of DDR2 and 2 lanes of DDR3 pretty much crippling the board expansion wise from the outset as you couldnt use both types at the same time.

Those that do end up at auction will end up with an inflated price due to supply (ie next to none) vs demand. Do the maths and it will be cheaper to sell up and move sockets.

Gigabyte GA-EP45T-USB3P

This is one of them. Btw 4T5 your sig made me laugh lol. Do you have plan to kidnap somebody? :p

I think DDR3 with socket 775 is rare and only handful of mobos support DDR3.

May be OP can sell the DDR3 and get 2nd hand DDR2? Will make life much easy in choosing mobos.

You'll need to come with me & take the same journey as the others to get the answer to your question. :D

OP What's the matter with that Mobo I posted, Damn posters these days are getting so fussy. :p

I was almost tempted to just say "GOOGLE IT NOOB" but I managed to restrain myself :p

Instead I've done a quick search for you, as your PC has obviously not got Google installed on it ;)

Here's just a few DDR3 based skt 775 boards that took me no more than a couple of minutes to locate.

X38 DDR3 boards;

ASUS P5E3 Deluxe
ASUS Maximus Extreme
Foxconn X38A

X48 DDR3 boards;

Asus P5E3 Premium X48
Msi X48c Platinum
Intel DX48BT2 Extreme Series

P35 DDR3 boards;

Asus P5KC
Gigabyte GA P35-DS3R
Biostar TP35D3-A7 Deluxe

P45 DDR3 boards;

Asus P5q3 Deluxe
MSI B75MA-P45 Intel
Gigabyte EP45T-DS3R

Turns out most of them can be bought over here, although admitedly they're quite pricey nowadays.

Might be time for a proper upgrade?
