Simply put, because one does not simply "pilot" a destroyer.

Well yes it could be stupidly complicated but so would simply flying a smaller craft too, anything can be made possible.

I can't fly a 747 in person but I can fly a spitfire in a flight sim. If I can pilot a ship with 20 odd guns why can't I pilot a ship with 50? The controls would be the same, yes I'd have invisible crew "manning the stations" but I can't see why it can't be done.
 
Just watched the "pitch" vid on the site and OMG, its like a space game from the old days but modern. FINALLY!

I mean x is pretty and all and complex but its far too focused on stations and business which was pretty cool when x came out and all (yes i played elite and frontier) and i played x2 for a few years non stop. But they as in egosoft for x just keep repeating the same thing tho x rebirth might be diff it still has the same feel from what ive seen of it so far tho i hope its radically diff i.e not station focused like the old games were.

Anyhow.. This game by wing commander vet, well that pitch has done its job and hooked me good, i dunno how much i can pledge but i would like to help fund it somehow, i need to check funds.

If the guy can do what he is pitching then wow.

Just wondering tho, its not gona use DLC is it? As that would put me off or be a f2p mmo kinda thing which i dont think it is but if it has a cash shop then it is like most of the f2p games i have been in and i really dont want that.

Wasnt Nexus Jupiter Incident all about cap ships only? Then there is Nexus 2 on kickstarter which probably will be the same.

Very ambitious, it looks like he is trying to make the kind of space sim people have always wanted, pulling it off will be hard tho!

The tech demo seems like a good start, did I hear right that its the Cry engine they are using?
 
If he pulls off the features he wants to implement in a persistent universe you can kiss my life goodbye.

Since Elite I've been waiting for a game like this. Freelancer came close but was stagnated by M$, but I'll be watching this so closely.
 
When watching the combat part of the gamespot vid, it seemed very very slow the weapons fire which is kind of off putting as i was hoping it would be more like freespace very fast weapons. I really dislike slow laser weapons especially in the x games which is why i never liked the combat in them games. Freespace, freelancer, wing commmander iirc, starlancer, all had nice feeling fast firing and traveling weapons. The weapons in this game seem unusually slow from a 3rd person view point, tho when in the cockpit it seemed faster but when its from a 3rd person it seemed like slow mo combat.
 
Btw im curious, for those that are pledging, what tiers did you go for and why? As im not sure which tier to go for tbh if i decide to pledge. Tho most i think i could pledge is around 30 quid maybe 40 it all depends.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. I can't imagine after everything they're trying to achieve, something as fundamental as the laser shooting won't be fun. :p

Remember this thing isn't planned to come out until november 2014.

Just enough to get the game because I'm poor.
 
I have to say his pitch video does make it look and sound very special, even for none fans of the genre.
