Dog knifed.

Apologies for the DM link. When I started reading this all I could think of was "who could do such an awful thing?", however as you read you can sort of understand why the guy did what he did.

There's 2 sides and all that, but let me ask you, ladies and gents, would you have done the same if your dog/cat was being attacked?

I've kicked a dog in the ribs before when it started to attack my own dog only to get the owner having a go at me. Dogs like the one that the woman owns are a menace to society when they are owned by people like that woman. A dog that attacks small things shouldn't be let of the lead, it's bad ownership. I know it gets used a lot but 'what if it was a child'; if it was I don't suppose anyone would have a problem with the dog being knifed.

judging by the reactions of the locals id say the woman had it coming. seems she let her dog run riot because she either couldnt or wouldnt control the dog.

if somone messes with your family you do what you have to, to protect them. same applies for pets, they are family

The woman should not of had that dog of its lead. If the dog that was attacked had been child what would have happened then? People like her should not be allowed dogs like that as they are a danger to society.

It is very sad but it is clear that dog was out of control and a danger that should definitely not be around other dogs let alone be "allowed to run around the estate with no lead". Don't get me wrong, I hate cruelty to animals and I have grown up with & have two dogs but when a vicious dog is attacking your dog it is horrible. I have had to kick a dog off one of mine before and that wasn't even a dog that is as powerfull as an American bulldog. A fight between a 42kg bulldog & a small terrier would generally only ever end with the terrier being killed. I would imagine that even whilst getting stabbed it kept tight hold at first hence being stabbed 23 times.

Very sad but if the owner had let the bulldog kill his smaller dog, the bulldog would have been put town anway.

a good number of years ago my (now passed away)dog was attacked by a local dog that was off the lead(owner close behind), she refused to do anything so i did the same, and the attacking dog got 2 swift boots in the ribs which stopped it attacking my dog, i hold no remorse, similar to this situation this dog is well known locally for being trouble(as well as the owner), knifing it may be a little harsh but i can understand the frustration.

From what I understand of the article the man knifed the attacking dog while his dog's head was still in the attacker's mouth. If kicking and punching didn't work then what is the next course of action? Watch your dog die?

The same should have happened to an old border collie that kept trying to 'herd' me every time I walked to school as a kid, and it was never tied to a leash.

Unfortunately it didnt, so I had a lot of nightmares and torment.

Both were wrong in some respect. The lady's disregard for the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, and inappropriate weapon used by the guy. Baseball bat would have been better, so that it kept the dog at bay without fatality. However, it was spur of the moment for the guy and he probably just fetched the first weapon that he found.

Stupid owner, she should be banned from owning dogs, just becuase she's lost the dog, should not make her immune from penalties.

What!!!!

Howmmany people own a baseball bat, or any bat for that matter. How do you keep it at bay, when its allready got your dogs head in its mouth.

I think it is pretty clear that it was past the point of keeping the dog at bay when he got the knifes. The problem with dogs like that is that once they lock their jaws on to something it is very difficult to get them off, it's basic a hunting instinct/technique.

I think it's important not to confuse dog aggression with human aggression. That said this is a very sad story for all concerned. There are questions raised, such as if it was such a sustained and horrific attack how he waited 'five minutes' for the owner to turn up before going for knives. His little dog was in the other dog's mouth for five minutes with nothing more than superficial harm, but it necessitated stabbing the other dog 23 times? Really?

To be fair shock likely played a role here, and time perception was distorted.

The look of horror and abject devastation on the owner's face is plain to see, and in one sense I really feel for her. However the fact remains that ABs are incredibly loyal, strong, dominant and powerful dogs and need an owner capable of directing and controlling that. It sounds very much as though this lady had no such qualities and the dog suffered as a result. If things are as described it's exceedingly difficult to blame the gentleman concerned, and the lady needs to learn about responsible dog ownership and perhaps stick to a breed more within her capabilities.

A sad case indeed, regardless.

Can't believe he was arrested really for such blatant self defense, just lucky he wasn't charged by the nanny state for knife possession or some other victimless crime. He had a lucky escape from both the dog and the courts this time.

B) 1 man standing nearby with a bloody knife / blood stained clothes.

Who do you expect the police to arrest? Clue, it isnt A.

If someone's dog did it to my dog and it was not my dog that was in the wrong? Well I wear my steel toed work boots when walking my dog so I don't ruin my trainers and I'd have a good go at kicking it in the ribs. It is not just the dog that is in danger, if you attempt to get the dog free without using force then you are going to get yourself hurt.

Without a doubt would have done the same, and lot's of people would agree.
