Went to go shopping today, and thought I would check how much of my student loan I had left. Logged on to see all but £5.61 has been taken - first start scouring my mind to try and think where it could have gone.

Onto the bank and they where able to tell me 6 different transactions had taken place over the last 2 days all to wonga.com

Thats me penny-less until next week sometime when the bank refund the money. Funny thing is I'm almost sure I read sometime either on here or on another forum about scammers like this using Wonga, but cant for the life of me find the thread.

Ripping at the minute  Anyone else had this recently?

There was something about this and Wonga a while ago on Watchdog. People having loans taken out in their names.

Sorry to hear of this OP, but it will get sorted out in a couple of days like it did with me a few years back. The main thing is to ascertain how your card details got stolen. I wasn't 100% sure in my case, but I think I must had used it in the cash point of one of those remote petrol stations that uses a strimmer. I stay away from those now, and those ones that you find in corner shops that charges £1.85 per withdrawal. Then on Christmas Eve, €250 got taken out from a European cash point, where actually I haven't been abroad for years. Oh the joys of being skint over Christmas, although when I did get the money back, I was loaded in January when everyone else was skint lol :p

Went to the bank - Check

Complain about it on the internet - Check

Borrow some money and have a beer - Hopefully check

At least you did it in the right order.

Hmm, so how does the scam involve Wonga?
People steal your details then apply for a loan in your name, they get the cash you are oblivious until they start taking repayments out of your account. Either that or the angry letters start to arrive saying you owe them £16billion for a £1k loan you supposedly took out 6 months ago at 2500% interest.

I heard Alan Pardrew told the Newcastle players not to worry about the recent Wonga sponsorship deal, he told them to "go out there and give 4107%"

oh yeah I went there ;)
