Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

Considering getting Win8 but only if discounts exist like the pre-order benefits that existed for Win7 (got Win7 H.Pre retail for £45).
I'll just have the disc sitting around until whenever though and still with Win7 in the meantime.

A question about windows 8 upgrade: must a previous version of Windows be installed first whenever one wants to install 8? I remember this being the case with old OS' like w98 and so forth, when I last used an upgrade.

It's not possible to simply use an existing key for the older OS and install 8 fresh?

^ I hope so!

Although this has me wonder about Windows install image files that exist as downloads to be used by those who have already bought a key. I assume it's illegal to host upgrade ISO files.

I'm going to stick with Win7 until I next upgrade my HDD (probably when decent 512GB SSDs fall below the £200-mark).

If you're planning on that then buy it now.
The 24.99 deal I don't know how. Long will last, the general shop deals only last till the 31st of jan, so if you are intending to install win8 in the next three years buy it at launch and sit on it.

Without reading the whole thread, im i right in thinking that you can buy W8 digital online and its cheaper then buying a retail copy?

Yes, as long as you have a copy of windows.

Win8 upgrade is 24.99 from MS or 49.99 in shops.
There is no retail, your other option is oem which is 79.99

Thank you for the reply, so do you simply buy W8 online and then burn to a DVD yourself for future re-installs?

You will need a windows license. So xp/vista/win7 etc.
If you have no license, you either need to buy a copy or go win8 oem.
It may well. Work out cheaper to find a second hand retail copy of vista and teh 24.99 upgrade.

I got it in dual boot with Win 7. My synology Nas and Phone and Tablet(android) are a sort of linux based and it
helps when I need to flash\adb ect

Fair enough. It's just that some people seem to think it's the holy grail of gaming when it really isn't as simple as porting a few games over.
