Heyup y'all.

I have a Crucial M4 in my desktop and it's been faultless. I'm considering just getting another as I already know the model/brand etc to go in my new laptop.

It's always best to check though, has anything better/more reliable come out yet?

So far I'm looking at:

  • Crucial M4
  • Intel 330
  • Samsung 830/840
  • Corsair Force GT

So far I'd rather stick to the M4/Intel 330 because they're around £80, whereas the Samsung is around £90 and the Corsair is around £100.

Any opinions?

Edited the original post. Why do you say that though? Brand loyalty or do you have reviews etc?

Forgot to mention, I don't not fancy OCZ at all. I'm not a fan of their QC and customer support.

I have an M4 so am biased, but it's only 128gb so tempted to upgrade, and I would be choosing a Samsung or the M4 again purely due to reliability issues with the other two you mentioned :)

The Samsung seems to get good reviews and seems to have slightly better equipment than the M4 so would make sense to be an upgrade.

ive owned an m4 and currently run a corsair force gt,both were fast and i couldnt tell between them
i think it comes down to price and looks out of those drives youve listed, speedwise they all feel the same

remember you do get a mounting bracket with the corsair gt

check the reviews, and the user experience on the xtermesystems forums,
top that with 5 year warranty and lowest failure rate of all ssd's and you have the winner.

either way as long as you avoid sandforce, you cant loose.

nothing wrong with sandforce, thats an old out of date chestnut;)

The samsung 830 gets my vote, proven, reliable and fast. I have 2 of the 256GB versions myself.

Also while it is true that the big issues with sandforce drives have been fixed, they are still slow when handling incompressible data. For that reason I personally avoid them, but there is nothing actually wrong with them.

Can't decide whether to go for an 830 or the M4... They were my first choice anyway, but if I go for an M4, I already have one so could be used for RAID0 stuff in future (unlikely), but if I go for the Samsung, it's a Samsung laptop so I like the continuity side of it. :p

+1 for the Samsung 830

I'd wait a few days for the 840/840-PRO to arrive, and there could well be a few deals to be found on the "older" 830.

But if you see an M4 cheaper still, go for that.
