HD8800 Series Coming

What exactly is your disbelief based on?

For £250 you get the console and the tablet controller, what's so hard to believe?

I find it more surprising that you thought the console by itself without the new tablet controller would be £250.

I'm ordering the deluxe model @ £299

Buy the 7950.

+1, you could be waiting more than 6 months for the 8### series, probably will.

if you wait for one thing you be waiting for ever to get the best deal and still not get it, there is always something better apparently just around the corner, that never changes.

You tell me when your 7970 drops to those FPS in game and i'll go to exactly the same point, record it and prove they don't, ok?

I've seen drops on high settings at BF3 with 7970 CF!

Granted, I do have 2 other screens running (still playing at 1080p though) so that may be a cause, but a 7970 can drop below 60

Sorry, it might have seemed to be running fine but claiming 60+fps at all times with MSAA switched on is nonsense. Even 7970's drop below 60 in certain parts.

Agreed.
My 7950 @1150mhz can briefly/occasionally drop below 60fps on BF3 with all ultra + 2 or 4xMSAA. w/12.9 beta.

My card must be crap if a 7850 with a mild clock can do just as well...

Not on the 12.9 beta they don't...

We shall see Dave...

To be honest i did not try 12.9 BETA for long, not 100% stable on my card.

On 12.8 i'm faily constant getting on for 60 FPS, but i do see dips below 50, occasional to the low 40's on full air maps with my overclock.

I did run a short test with 12.9, yes minimum FPS did improve, but only by about 5, i don't know how that translates to a 7950 with 35% more cores.

Sounds juicy.

With a clocked 7950, you'd probably see minimums in the mid 50's.

I kick myself for not waiting a few week's, i could have had a 7950 from what the 7870 cost me.

Dirt Showdown for example, i can get everything maxed, including the advanced lighting settings, with 8x AA, but it's still ever so slightly jaggy like that, most noticeable on the canted menu bar, if i go for advanced AA i can get 4x+8x, it's still not perfect. knowing i could have had 8x+16x on a 7950 serves as a constant reminder to my stupidity for thinking "that must be it, they can't come down any more soon"

My head exploded when AMD announced another $50 off the 7950 just 2 weeks later.

I've had the GTX Windforce X3 670 overclocked to 1200Mhz (max it would do :() and then I sent it back as I seen these massive gains with the 7970s. As the cards were in the same price range I thought "why not" and sent the card back. I got the 7970 but was extremely unhappy with it due to Sapphire changing duff Vapor-X cards with the supposed Sapphire OC. The only thing that resembled the card it was meant to be, was the fan :D. Different display ports/DVI, coil whine and very poor ASIC quality. As I said, Sapphire is using poorly binned Vapor-X cards in the OC model and funnily enough, the changed cards have the exact same layout as the Vapor-X (shocked.... not:rolleyes:). The card had a default voltage of 1.26v lol. So yes again, that card was sent back and I'll never touch a Sapphire card again. I got that card to 1175Mhz. It would not run 1200Mhz no matter what.

Sorry, rant.

My point is. On Battlefield 3, the GTX 670 @ 1200Mhz vs 7970 @ 1175Mhz (12.8 driver) was very much in Nvidia's pocket. Now I've mainly used AMD cards apart from a MX420 lol, 7600GT and the 8800GTX. All the rest have been ATI/AMD (9800Pro, X800XT PE, 2900Pro, 4870, 6950). So if anyone throws a fanboy comment you will be ignored for sheer stupidity as I've had my problems with Nvidia rebadging, Assassins Creed and the Vista DX10 spec Microsoft hi 5 moment that screwed AMD over. However that is in the past when I was more passionate about these things. Now I understand the cut throat aspect of business and care little about it but I still have and probably will always have a soft spot for AMD.

However!!!!.

The GTX670 with 4xAA was like the 7970 with "AA Post" on high. I'd even still give the edge to the GTX670. This was @ 1920x1200, all Ultra apart from Motion Blur. The game wasn't nice with 4xAA on the 7970 but was playable with the GTX 670. You could feel the strain but it was playable. With the 7970 with MSAA off and Post AA on high I still turned down the shadows to make it as fluid as possible where I didn't need to do that at all with the GTX 670.

My CPU is at 4.2 HT off.

670 Top pic, 670 bottom pic. 670 @ 1200Mhz (Max) 7970 @ 1175Mhz (Max). So this is why I'm getting the 680 Lightnings. I've had enough messing about and although I loved the 670. I might as well go for the bad boys and get myself into this 3d gaming malarky Rusty, Tommy, WhyScotty and Gregster keep boasting about :D.

I'm sorry Lt.Matt but IMO Nvidia is a fair bit better on BF3. I think Dave you need to try an Nvidia card in BF3 :).

I think something must have been wrong with your system somewhere JD to come to the conclusion that a 670 with x4 aa is smoother than a 7970 with AA off and shadows only on high.

That's definitely not something ive experienced, but i wish you all the best with your next purchase.

Some fella posted these in another thread just today, seems to indicate things are pretty close now. :)

It's pretty well known that BF3 favours Nvidia cards :)

Yup, no surprises there :)

@ LtMatt, Sapphire and HIS do look like they use pretty low binned GPU's at times, running @ 1.26v is pretty horrendous for a 7970. that card will have been a total shambles at any clock.

I know someone with a HIS 7870 that's like that, his performance is way below mine, even a couple of entry level ASUS ones don't seem to measure up.

I hate when they do this.
Will get 7950 than.

1.26v stock? Wtf, bet the card was throttling. :D
