Gary McKinnon day of judgement

An absolute joke of a decision not to extradite him, he's guilty FFS! This country needs to grow some balls, I'm all for a fair trial and his right to appeal, but it shouldn't have lasted TEN YEARS and he should have gone. I doubt the same conclusion would have been reached if he had murdered someone.

Odd decision as it seems to be based entirely on the fact that he has Asperger's syndrome. Talha Ahsan who was recently extradited to the US also has Asperger's, surely a bit of a contradiction on Teresa May's part?

No, it was based upon the co-morbid depression and the real potential for suicide. This risk was explored and detailed by 5 professionals, 3 of whom are arguably at the top of the field internationally.

That is where the difference lies. Asperger's by itself is hardly grounds for exclusion. However, the potential for suicide as highlighted by May is.

How is it a joke? He commited the crimes from within the UK its only appropraite that he doesnt get ported to the USA to face what he did.
Its not as if hes got away with anything - he will still go to trial just in the UK and not in the utterly corrupt american courts.

Time will tell whether he has gotten away with it.

If this country grew some bulls then maybe the pilots of those A-10's would have been held accountable for their mistakes in wrongly attacking the British Warriors in 1991. And yet the US maintained they didn't have to even attend the inquiry into the incident. Let's not pretend we are letting the US down here - they look after their own like we do.

What Gary has not been found guilty of results in far less of a penalty in this country than the US. He has already technically 'served' his time with a noticeable decline in his mental health as fully detailed by experts in the field.

Which is all irrelevant as the issue at hand is would moving him to the US result a real potential for harm. This was explored by experts in the field with the resulting evidence being used to say no.

It's all rather embarrassing for the US - if Gary could do that on dial-up then it is hardly shocking all the Chinese military tech looks like carbon copies of the US stuff ...

I wish people would stop spreading this like it's true. You really think that if you attack a country from behind the border of another then you're not committing a crime in the target country?

It just doesn't work like that.

Two wrongs do not make a right. Yes the US is corrupt and looks after it's own, but then do we have a right to criticise when we've just gone and done the same?

If the extradition treaty is crap and one-sided then it should be terminated. That way the US would have no grounds to get their hands on him.

And there the nail has been hit. I don't for a minute believe he is suicidal nor does he fear for his life. He wants to stay here for the same reason Hamza and his mates did - because here we have a policy of giving our criminals a better living than some of our citizens. The US don't have the same policy.

This is all just utter rubbish. Are you trying to tell me that if I don't lock my front door I deserve to be burgled? It's exactly that kind of attitude that is ruining this country.

I'm on the fence on this one... he caused them a financial loss/time spent tidying up after him... but it was carried out from the UK. He should face charges in one country at least - perhpas it is preferable that charges are brought in the UK.

The case of the guy running a website with links to pirated material - I'm completely on the side of those against this treaty, its getting a bit ridiculous when a treaty envisaged for swifter processing of terrorism suspects gets used to grab someone who'd not even necessarily committed an offence under UK law.

IMO the treaty does need tweaking slightly.

Would like to see how the US press would react if the UK were to start requesting extraditions of Irish American's who've provided funding for the IRA.

But he didn't attack the USA he was just being a nosy git snooping around. The USA spent all that money fixing loopholes that he found. Not as if he caused havoc on the government systems

It doesn't matter what he was doing on there. It was not a public computer and that's that.

I'm astounded that people are having trouble grasping this.

Huh? No, you wouldn't deserve to be burgled, but you know burglars are out there and are expected to take reasonable precautions.

The same way a lot of insurers won't pay out for a stolen car if you have left the keys in the ignition. Not because you deserved it, but because you were negligent.

So, no, Xordiums attitude is not what is ruining this country

It doesn't stop the burglar committing a crime though does it? He still has to make that choice to come into my house.

Plus is there even a 100% way to protect a network from intrusions? At what point do we assume the security is good enough? Or is it just because it's the USA that people seem to think they deserve it?

They deserve it when the boxes don't even have passwords.

No, they don't. Good grief. :D

Of course they do. Particularly on military and space systems. There's a lot of words to describe the people who left those boxes unlocked. Gormless. Moronic. Idiotic. Pants on head retarded. It's like not even putting a front door on your house and then being surprised when somone walking down the street knocking on every door decides to come in. Should he go in? No. Do the people who didn't bother putting a door on the house deserve it? Absolutely.

I meant the bit about them deserving it. Can you imagine the state of the country if people went around with that attitude?

Couldn't they have just setup a court at the US embassy which would have meant he could have been tried here in the UK but without the need to have him flown out of the country?
