Microsoft Surface RT Priced

I am really excited about this and I am tempted to pre-order.

For it it would replace the use of a tablet AND a laptop. Thinking about the Pro version as well as there are some legacy x86 apps I use for work that would be great to have.

£

All Win 8 apps will work on Win RT as well. And this is Windows, the app count will be massive by xmas. The apps are growing fast and theres already over 5000 right now.

n.

Not true, they need small alterations, however so far 94% of the apps in the App Store are abilable on both win8 and win RT

Yes, you''ll be able to skateboard on it while you're waiting for a decent app :D

And just FYI they make planes and rockets out of aluminium alloys so it can't be all that bad, even if MS or you are suggesting it is.

FYI... I dented my MBA within a day of having it.

FYI 2... There are many different types of aluminium alloy available, in pretty certain the one Apple use is not the same alloy aircraft manufacturers use, in fact its probably closer to the one drinks manufacturers use.

If an Mg chassis stops dents then in all for it, unfortunately it costs a significant amount more, hense why Mg alloy wheels on cars cost a lot more than steel ones, with alu Bering cheaper than steel (but not used for wheels because its too fragile). That is one of the reasons I doubt the surface will reduce in price by much, the nexus 7 and kindle fire are both sold at cost, at around 150-200, the iPad costs around £250 to make and I'm guessing the Surface will cost even more. That's not much to play with for any profit MS want to make on the RT.

You couldn't off piced a worse choice. Win8 will have angry birds, they've allready confirmed it.

Do you not know the meaning of yet, and current?

I know there's a lot in the works, and confirmed, but as it stands right now, take a gander at the app store and free games, it's pretty pitiful.
I was playing an air hockey game on my tablet, was the only decent game there for me so far :p

Do you know you can't get your hands on any rt products yet

But you can get hold of Windows 8 legally, Windows 8 previews and touch devices that can run Windows 8 and tablets that can run Windows 8.

One could say that you'd want a bigger library to entice people from already well established platforms.

Yes you can say that and it's very much true. However it's not released yet. Wait for the list on the 26th as I've said before there are a fair few big names that have allready confirmed.
And some off them look awesome.

Audible with the voice control built from the ground up for win8(this is one important bit how many are going to be simple ports and how many are going to be rebuilt to support all of win8 features) looks amazing for example. Although like any app, it's only relevent if you use it.

Who actually spends hours on ends playing mobile games on there android/ios devices? many just play for maybe 2mins and thats it.

people play most of there games on there desktop pc's or there consoles.

Most people use there android and ios devices for facebook, twitter etc etc o and for web browsing.

Like i said before. so long as MS has all the popular social and utility/tools apps available it will be fine.

I am personally waiting on a Pro tablet as i can use that to play PROPER actual fully fledge games, not bloody angry birds.

An android and ios will never be able to play BF3/ WOW/GW2/COD etc etc. never. maybe a gimped mobile cut down version but not fully fledge one.

The surface tablet has the potential to create a proper PC Tablet. not no gimmick open closed android ios system.

O and here is a closing statement for u all. Because of the nature of the pro tablets, it is possible to install ubuntu OS or a fully fledge MAC OS.

we now have a tablet that this pretty much limitless.

We could do the same on the HP Slates though.

And I'd rather AMD get in the game with their APU's on tablets than trying to hardcore game on a HD4000.

There are indeed many different kinds of aluminium alloy. I wonder which one Photek was specifically referring to as flimsy?

I don't remember mentioning Apple? I actually really dislike Apple products due to the price, other greed related features, and not being able to decide for myself what I would like to run on them.

I have never dropped my tablet or my laptop, and sales gimmicks never seem to strike a chord with me I'm afraid.

Anyway I hope your new surface ( if you're intending to get one ) works out for you, I was only having a giggle to pass the time ;)

Neither Nexus 7 nor Kindle Fire are sold at cost. In fact the former should be getting another price slash in a month or two with the upcoming Nexus 7 32GB (that will replace the 16GB model) and the rumoured $99 Nexus.

Maybe you didn't however that is the biggest selling tablet at the moment, not sure what the Asus is like but I know the Samsung Series 9 laptop is a lot nicer aluminium than the one Apple use.

I didn't drop my laptop, it was in an unpadded bag and obviously put down on a corner (hotel porters handling it...). Either way it's not a sales gimmick. Mg Alloy is significantly more durable than Aluminium and the Surfaces are more likely to be marketed at the enterprise market where durability is more important that minimal cost (see the blurb on surface.com, discussing enterprise use).

I may or may not get the Surface tbh, I'm waiting for reviews to come out before I get one (if I decide I need a tablet).

Apologies...! I took no profit as at cost...;)

So yeah, basically no profit. They make their money on marketplace sales. Microsoft may do in future but have spend a significant amount more on a higher quality product... I also think some of the price is due to MS wanting to do two things, show what windows can really do and marketing windows as a more premium device, all while not undercutting all the OEMs.
