Well yes, obviously kindle is a loss leader. All the money is in the book sales, as they have zero distribution costs so are almost all profit.
The Fire HD is a tablet, so not just e-ink readers.

Showed the miss the surface today, and she was like it looks really nice but if it didn't have the apps she needed it was DOA for her atleast. Having Office was a plus thou.
It would be interesting to know what apps she considered ones she needs. As has been pointed out here already a lot of people use the total number of apps available as evidence to say it won't have any apps so will suck. But when you actually look at the apps people really want (email, office, Facebook, twitter and a web browser) they are all available.
They will likely be on Windows soon.
Its far to easy for people to just point at the number of apps and use that as a reason, but they are forgetting 2 things. Firstly 99% of the apps in the iOS and Android markets are complete garbage, and both those markets had hardly any apps in them at one point. Obviously early adopters are going to have to wait for some apps to come along, but assuming W8 is a success (which I think it will be, at least for RT tablets, Pros I'm not yet convinced), the number of available apps is only going g to grow, and grow fast.
I hear you, but those are the one she used the most so its like whats the point of giving up your iPad for something less functional at this point at least. Personally I will get the surface I think (if not a N7) and I'm sure she will love the UI, I think thats one thing MS has going for it, its a really nice UI to get **** done. Apps shouldn't be a problem, if people actual use the metro apps on desktop (I wont for the most part) then they have a huge install base ever seen.
I know its an excuse but right now its a problem, and the idea of huge market place is that most of the time you could just search for anything and it would come up, any random kinda of app that you will use once xD. I personally think its more of a insecurity that omg, I wont have any apps to download from, what is my smartphone useful for then.
So are there people who would prefer the RT over the Pro? The Pro is pretty much a laptop while the RT is more like a tablet right?
Is there a way to browse the Windows app store through a web page, like you can with the Android market?

Probably after a refresh or two, as I've a couple of i7 laptops more powerful than the Pro I'll wait until it can perform better than them.takes 2 seconds for u to find the answer http://www.windowsphone.com/en-gb/store

No need for the attitude. I know about the Phone store, but the RT/Pro store is different.
