Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

I got Windows Vista Ultimate x64 OEM with a product key but never use it for the last 2 years. Do I need to install this first, then go for cheap Windows 8 Pro upgrade £24.99 with WMC £0.00 ?

Possibly, best to wait until 26/10 and we will know.

MS have given conflicting information in their blogs/comments as to how it will work where the qualifying OS is not installed. If you can't wait and want to be safe, then "yes" install it first as that will definitely work.

Sound bit con over upgrade get cheaper deal but a full clean installation get expensive! I knew in the past expenience, upgrade installation can be nightmare for many third party program applications already installed will get stop working (not compatibility)

Upgrade is cheaper because you have already a qualifying license, you bought a previous version of Windows. If you do not have a Windows license you can't take advantage of the upgrade - you're not upgrading you're starting with a new license. Don't mix up the different licenses and the different installation methods.

You can do a clean install as part of the upgrade if you wish, but to be safe you should be upgrading from a qualifying OS. Or you can upgrade the qualifying OS and find you have problems with the legacy install (unlikely) do a Reset from within Windows 8 and you'll have a clean install.

What we don't know, and won't know for certain until 26/10 is how to perform a totally clean installation, say you replace a failed HD, or you want to do the upgrade offer but don't have a qualifying OS installed (i.e. you're running one of the previews). For that we'll have to wait for hands-on feedback - anything else is just guesswork right now.

Hmm...If I upgrade from an OEM licence will I be able to reinstall in the future if I don't have the install media. (i.e. the install partition) but DO have the licence key?

From what i understand if you have a 32 bit operating system (Windows XP in my case) you can only install the 32 bit version of Windows 8 ......is that correct ?

But according to blogs.windows you can upgrade to the full Windows 8 over Windows 8 Release Preview as long as you have a "underlying license" ?

So if I install Windows 8 Release Preview 64 bit over a copy of Windows XP 32 bit will I then be able to install the Windows 8 upgrade version on top in 64 bit ?

Well that is just stupid of Microsoft demanding a 1024x768 resolution or else. Denying millions of netbooks from upgrading to Windows 8.

I've managed to get it to work with a resolution of 1024x768 but it's not comfortable to use like what has already been said.

1024x768 is not an excessive demand. The outlier is the low resolution screen. A few million netbooks isn't enough to justify the compromise.

You just find yourself in an unfortunate situation, that's all.

Not an excessive demand? Heh. While the manufactures are quite happy to churn them out.

Manufactures won't keep churning them out.
And that's minimum resolution, really you need 136x768 which is why ever win 8 machine on sale has that. The only exception I've found so far is one of the hp tablets and they should be shot for doing that.

I'm not sure if you have noticed but netbooks are currently being dumped out, ASUS have a model that they have slashed the srp to £179 to shift this old stock out.

Resolutions less than that are really not common. They wouldn't get certified for Windows 8.

Depends,Android tablets for example 1024x600 is quite normal, personally rather have an Android tablet then Win8 tablet ,Win8 has its uses ie in my case for my laptop.
