Evening gents,

Just wondering if anyone else has had an SSD die for no reason what so ever? Went out Friday night and turned the PC off, Sat when I turned it on...nothing, not seen by the BIOS and wont work if I plug it into a USB caddy.

Any ideas? Anyone heard of this happening before?

With an SSD you won't get any tell tale warning signs that it is about to fail, only in a small amount of cases maybe.

Yeah this problem is well known for the Vertex 2/2E SSD's just to die for no reason. I would get on the OCZ fourm and the staff will tell you what needs doing.

Im 1 of the lucky ones as my Vertex 2E SSD is comming up to 3yrs old and I havent had a single problem.......... BOOM hehe

I just RMA'd my trusty old OCZ vertex 2 bigfoot 3.5" 120GB drive after 2 years of flawless use. Got a replacement quite quickly and then sold it and put the cash towards a 256GB Crucial M4.

My PC just froze one day whilst in Windows and when I rebooted the mobo could not detect the drive on SATA port 1.

Just happened to me, using a Corsair Force 3 240GB though. Windows locked up, restarted and BIOS said it had vanished. Other machines cannot even see the disk exists when connected.

Infuriating, given I only bought the disk in Feb and need it for work!

I was quite lucky, I powered off my PC and restarted and it came back on and booted. I did'nt take any chances though and still RMA'd it and replaced it with the Crucial.

Every Vertex 2e that I've ever owned has failed (think I had about 4 before I finally started getting different models as warranty swaps).

ummm just emailed OCUK regarding the vertex they have as a banner its the 60gb one.

Im wondering if I should get some thing else now then shame cus its only £35

Just make sure your SSD is backed up, if the worst happens you won't lose data - just some time really.

to put it in perspective I have had a crucial m4 die as well but after that no issues, I have the 60 gig vertex 2e in my server and that gives me no hassle either....(yet)
