Subwoofers (subs)

Using a home made tapped horn with pa driver and amp, it works well above 30hz, but lower than that it starts to roll off,so it's more suited to music over films. It still rattles things during films however. :D

Adam are a pretty well respected brand, not cheap but I quite like the sound of some of their smaller studio monitors. I haven't heard their subs however.

No sub here (looking for one within next week) but looking at Bk xxls400 and monitor audio silver

Cheers guy's.

Never heard of SVS but just checked out their web-site and the 3 compact design's look really interesting. The SB13 with 1000 watts is very cool but a bit out of my price range as i'll need 2 :D to run in parallel.

And the BK' with the Peerless driver still look good.

Any SVS SB12 or SB13 users out their?

Mine's a home made sub. 42.2L front ported cabinet with a 10" downward firing driver. Response at -3dB is 26Hz. Not bad going for something i built for my GCSE technology project 10 years ago. Wasn't all that expensive to build either, came in under £150. Got me an A too.

XLS400 is a very good sub for the money

Fast and musical and will dig deep when necessary - basically at about 1/3 power is enough for my semi large for an average house listening room.

As with all subs its getting them setup correctly that will make our break your listening experience.

Also I would strongly consider a DSPeaker antimode unless you have proper bass trapping in the room - otherwise its very likely to be a mode fest with any sub.

They have new models out - the cinema model which is for one sub only and has more filters than the older model so will be slightly better - for similar money ;)

Cheers EllisDJ, yep i came across the antimode on the BK website and they could come in handy if i have some issues here.

I'm certainly steering towards the BK stuff, its good to go with proven performers and the price is fair, thanks for the input ;)

I run two Monolith DF's with an Antimode and be it music or movies they never fail to raise a grin from all who listen to them. Being physically assaulted by clean sub bass is worth every penny. :)

You will deifnately have bass issues in your room unless you have proper bass trapping.

Every room has bass issues unles they have been acoustically designed.

Some form of eq on the bass is essential unless you have bass trapping, which is a much better option.
Even then some eq would probs still help with the reposne etc

an anti mode is £220-400 depending model well spent
