I got rid of win8 as Asus Ai suite was glitchy and usb 3.0 boost did not work at all
Ah, so dual screen setups are not really working out too great at the minute, sounds a little confusing, could be good if metro was on one screen and a normal desktop area on the other, but if that is not the case then well, as you say guys above it could do with MS doing something about it.
Want to give a bit more detail? I'm on 4 screens and it's working okayish. The hotspot corners work on every screen independently. If you open the Start Screen with a mouse it opens on the screen you do it on. If you use the Winkey it opens the Start Screen on the last monitor you opened it on.
The only reason for saying okayish is that the hotspot detection points are difficult to hit accurately if it's say the middle monitor. Often I get the Start Screen icon on the middle screen, and at the same time the Charm on the left hand screen!
It'd be much nicer if there was some option to snap to or change the detection areas when you can't just chuck your mouse into a corner.
This is it. My middle monitor is my main one and it's just terrible. Also, each time i reboot for some reason it shifts my main screen to the left most one... in landscape when in fact it's portrait....
I tell you what. This isn't being implemented at work, it'll be a nightmare with our users...
I wouldn't expect many businesses to be implementing this and still some time before any really start any evaluation of it either.
It's things like this that show Metro is a 1.0 product. It needs some polish. I use the Winkey more, but my config is 3+1 above, it works fine on the 1 above monitor as the corners are corners! Not much help I know.
I've not seen the orientation change happen before, what card/drivers are you using?
Well I wouldn't say that was a good reason, Asus AI suite is buggy in any OS, even 7, I'm sure Asus would have fixed it at sometime.
I've got a GTX580 + GT520. Running the latest drivers from nVidia site (forget which, not at home right now). I think it has an issue with the way they're setup.
I have it like so:
Left Screen Portrait - GT520 DVI
Middle Screen Landscape - GTX580 DVI
Right Screen Portrait - GT520 HDMI
I'm getting a 7970 soon so will hopefully have a better experience.
You don't need usb3 drivers for w8 they're included.
I will definitely give the final version a try in a vm and see if i can disable metro and add a start menu and customize it to the point where it is usable. If not then ill stick with windows 7 and maybe go back to it at sp1 or if i see any developments in terms of tweaks.
But i do like trying new windows OS and i am bit a disappointed about win 8 in general.
If you want to go to those lengths to disable new features, and given all your negative criticism towards Windows 8, what are you exactly hoping to gain from Windows 8?
Wouldn't you just be better off staying on Windows 7?
I like to use the latest OS and apparently it is faster and more stable and it has a few new features that i would use like task manager and explorer toolbar. It would also be a nice challenge to see if i can make it usable![]()
why do i want to use it, cause i am geek, ok. It also my job, i need to stay in with latest stuff.
The Surface RT is meant to have micro HDMI, fyi
