** October iPad Refresh **

Still not sure what all the fuss over the iPad is. Isn't it just a giant iPhone without the phone bit? I guess it's a giant iPod touch then thinking about it :p

As they're still selling the iPad 2 with the legacy connector that imo is big hint for a march refresh where it will be dropped. We'll probably see a much "thinner" retina iPad then with the current one taking the place of the iPad 2. Just speculation of course.

With a bit of luck a retina mini will be added to the line up.

I agree, think a retina iPad mini is inevitable. It's just not Apple style to give it all to you straight away though. When they can sell you an iPad Mini now then a retina iPad mini in a years time and make twice the money.

Fixed :p

The Apple naming scheme is awful, I've gone out of touch with any refreshes with it being called 'The new iPad' - doesn't the 'new' one already have 4G anyway? Specs say it does have 4 & 17 (1700 and 2100 Mhz bands).

I am so confused.. so my new ipad that i bought earlier this year which has a retina display has been replaced by a new model ? what happened to the yearly upgrade cycle ?

There is going to be some proper anger about this

Yep, the first retina iPad which was launched earlier this year is the 3rd generation and the one they've announced recently is the 4th generation so they've not kept to the yearly product cycle.

It might become yearly from now on, this event might be the iPad/iPad mini update event every year, but who knows.

To be fair it doesn't matter what generation is out or what they are called as long as the device is marketed right and the product is successful.

It certainly will be since the iPad 2 / iPad 3 are having spec bumps to bring the whole Aple line up2 date.

These posts are so dumb. You would prefer Apple to slow down the pace of innovation so you can bask in the glory of owning the latest and greatest model for purely selfish and materialistic reasons.

This is just a mid cycle refresh, expect an even better, lighter, thinner, newer more shiny iPad again around March for you to rage about all over again.

Does anyone else notice that Apple iOS updates seem to make your iOS device slower every time you update? It would be nice if the iOS wasn't so demanding, for example on a PC you have an OS for at least 4 years(?) and there is still no slowdown from the OS, the only reason I upgrade my PC is to play the latest games; Windows 7 still runs great!. Even on my iPhone 4 I notice it has started to become a little sluggish, and what has been added? the notification bar. Do Apple purposely code the iOS to be demanding to make people upgrade I wonder.

You could always not update? More people would moan if they didn't allow the newer iOS versions on older devices, they get enough grief for limiting new features based on performance.

The screen is worth it alone.

The only issue I had with the gen 1 which was pretty major is the browser crashing all the time. I stopped using it and bought a Nexus becuase of this issue. My wife on the other hand preferred the iPad inspite of it crashing halfway through placing an order, that was guaranteed. Pretty much bought it for the wife but if it's any good I might start using it again over the Nexus.

Just gone for a WiFi 32GB in white. Was close to ordering a couple of week's ago so I'm glad I waited in that sense, even if the update isn't that big.

Its nothing to do with basking in any glory its to do with been sold an incomplete cash in product in march which gets overly hot for what i consider to be a large sum of money only for another more complete product to be released 6 months later.

If its a not the above then why are apple downplaying the new one as been "minor upgrades with a new connector" when it fact its far more than that.

Didn't Apple do exactly this with the iPad2 at the same time of year, when they put the A5 in it to speed it up a bit and increase battery life?
